Publisher's summary

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Roland's ka-tet remains intact, though scattered over wheres and whens. Susannah-Mia has been carried from the Dixie Pig (in the summer of 1999) to a birthing room (really a chamber of horrors) in Thunderclap's Fedic Station; Jake and Father Callahan, with Oy between them, have entered the restaurant on Lex and 61st with weapons drawn, little knowing how numerous and noxious are their foes. Roland and Eddie are with John Cullum in Maine, in 1977, looking for the site on Turtleback Lane where "walk-ins" have been often seen. They want desperately to get back to the others, to Susannah especially, and yet they have come to realize that the world they need to escape is the only one that matters.

Thus the audiobook opens, like a door to the uttermost reaches of Stephen King's imagination. You've come this far. Come a little farther. Come all the way. The sound you hear may be the slamming of the door behind you. Welcome to The Dark Tower.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Don't miss the other volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Critic reviews

"A pilgrimage that began with one lone man's quest to save multiple worlds from chaos and destruction unfolds into a tale of epic proportions....a closer look at the brilliant complexity of his Dark Tower world should explain why this bestselling author has finally been recognized for his contribution to the contemporary literary canon. With the conclusion of this tale...King has certainly reached the top of his game." (Publishers Weekly)

One more turn of the wheel.

Here we are folks. The end of the journey. It has been a long one and we say thankya. Roland and his Ka-yet quest forth to that obsidian obelisk that Roland Deschain, son of Steven, has pursued since the world began to move on. It has been a long journey and we all say thankya big big. Amazing read and arguably the best way to finish out a series. Long days and pleasant nights gunslingers.

An excellent

I for one am new to the DT series. I first started listening about a year ago and once I got past the third book, I bought nothing else until I finished this series.
DT-VII is an awesome tale that will make you happy and sad. It is rare that I can find a book that makes me feel along with it not just read along with it and this is such a book and has been such a series since the third book.
The ending fits perfectly with the theme of the whole series for how many times have we heard "Ka is a wheel". For those leaving horrible reviews because they expected something different, obviously hadn't been paying attention. In thinking back about the whole series, I am not sure any other ending would have really fit. In trying not to give anything away, let me just say that if you are a person that absolutly needs to have the " and they lived happily everafter till the end of their days" type of ending, then please, stop when the narrator tells you to stop, but if on the other hand you realize not all stories end that way, then enjoy the ending of this fine series.

It had to end...

The last book was heart breaking. The end was devastating. It has taken me 10 years to finish and this series is totally worth it.

Childe Roland to the Dark Tower.....

I have read this series twice, and have now listened to it all the way through here. This series is, without question, this constant reader's favorite of the stable. In this final stanza of the Dark Tower series, King triumphs above a wekaness that I feel, at times, is his only flaw as a story teller...endings. No other writer captures my attention as completely as King, but every now and then I feel as if he gets a little lost at the end of his tales. None of that here. Roland Deshain is a masterpiece of a character, and the supporting roles are also filled very nicely. The trials that face the little ka-tet in this finale are at once heartbreaking and breathtaking. Impossible and rediculous scenarios are rendered not only believable, but...real. The end of Roland's quest is, in my opinion, quite perfect and would not have worked out any other way.

George Guidall does a fine job or narrating this piece. At times I felt that the character voices were not completely consistant, but his skill of engaging me as a listener overcame any flaws in this regard. It was hard for me to loose the narration of Frank Muller, whom, I believe WAS Roland Deshain, but George stepped in and did a fantastic job.

Overall, this is a tremendous capstone to an epic and marvellous tale. If you are reading this review, I would assume that you have ventured quite deeply into the tale of the ka-tet already. Would you give up now? The quest is nearly complete! Stand and be true!

Final saga of Rowland and his ka-tet

This a must read for all King fans. Real fans. The reason I kept with King all of these years is because I didn't want every book I picked up to have a happy ending. If you do, don't read King. I think there are long passages in this saga where King got tired of writing this tale, but I think he knew the final chapter long before it was written. I am sure there are many who won't read it that know exactly the feeling that Rowland has at the end. I have had it a few times myself. The journey is a great one, and you get the sense that this journey has consumed King for many years and he is greatful for the final telling. I can't condem him for that. After reading this book, I am still a King fan and always will be. I can honestly say I was not dissapointed.
