Publisher's summary

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Roland's ka-tet remains intact, though scattered over wheres and whens. Susannah-Mia has been carried from the Dixie Pig (in the summer of 1999) to a birthing room (really a chamber of horrors) in Thunderclap's Fedic Station; Jake and Father Callahan, with Oy between them, have entered the restaurant on Lex and 61st with weapons drawn, little knowing how numerous and noxious are their foes. Roland and Eddie are with John Cullum in Maine, in 1977, looking for the site on Turtleback Lane where "walk-ins" have been often seen. They want desperately to get back to the others, to Susannah especially, and yet they have come to realize that the world they need to escape is the only one that matters.

Thus the audiobook opens, like a door to the uttermost reaches of Stephen King's imagination. You've come this far. Come a little farther. Come all the way. The sound you hear may be the slamming of the door behind you. Welcome to The Dark Tower.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Don't miss the other volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Critic reviews

"A pilgrimage that began with one lone man's quest to save multiple worlds from chaos and destruction unfolds into a tale of epic proportions....a closer look at the brilliant complexity of his Dark Tower world should explain why this bestselling author has finally been recognized for his contribution to the contemporary literary canon. With the conclusion of this tale...King has certainly reached the top of his game." (Publishers Weekly)

Stunning

I went from near tears to silent, confused hope. Unless you happened upon any spoilers, the endings will stun you.

My first thought was he lied in every word.

A masterpiece. All seven pieces a masterpiece. I am very sorry muller couldn't read the end but the new reader does a fine job once you're used to the change. I can understand how the ending is not for everyone. But I think it is right. How it needed to end.

Great series!

I really enjoyed many sections of this series.. Completely original, completely unpredictable and the story was so well written that the characters seemed to come to life. There were slow sections of this book and times I needed to take a break and go on to something else, but I'm glad I stuck to it and finally finished. It was a little drawn out and anti climatic for such a long series and them the last 30 min of the book seemed abridged, like I was missing something. I recommend this series, probably have a book or two to rotate as you enjoy the series!

A 23 Year Journey

For me this was a 23-year journey. However, I must admit to a certain amount of disappointment. Not in this book or how it was written. Not in the ending, rather in the fact that it did come to an end. Mr King has done a magnificent job of telling the story of Roland and his journey to the Dark Tower. And what an incredible journey it has been.

I am also amazed at the "disappointed" comments made by some readers because of the ending. One went so far as to say that he wasted 20 years all due to the ending of the last book. Wow!!! That sure does place a very large value on the way a story ends. And while I will agree that the beginning, middle and end have value, I disagree with the concept that a perceived bad ending makes the whole story bad.

In this case, however, the "ending" fits the character and the story. And the journey that we have been on has been one of the most imaginative stories ever told.

It will feel a little weird not having another Dark Tower book to look forward to, but after some time goes by, I?ll just start from the beginning and do it all over again. Thanks Stephen for a wonderful journey.

A sublime work of art...

After my second time through the series I am amazed. Stephen King's insight into human nature and his tale spinner's art combine again and again to present epics. I am a better person for reading his work. Thank you, Sy King.
