Publisher's summary

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Roland's ka-tet remains intact, though scattered over wheres and whens. Susannah-Mia has been carried from the Dixie Pig (in the summer of 1999) to a birthing room (really a chamber of horrors) in Thunderclap's Fedic Station; Jake and Father Callahan, with Oy between them, have entered the restaurant on Lex and 61st with weapons drawn, little knowing how numerous and noxious are their foes. Roland and Eddie are with John Cullum in Maine, in 1977, looking for the site on Turtleback Lane where "walk-ins" have been often seen. They want desperately to get back to the others, to Susannah especially, and yet they have come to realize that the world they need to escape is the only one that matters.

Thus the audiobook opens, like a door to the uttermost reaches of Stephen King's imagination. You've come this far. Come a little farther. Come all the way. The sound you hear may be the slamming of the door behind you. Welcome to The Dark Tower.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Don't miss the other volumes of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Critic reviews

"A pilgrimage that began with one lone man's quest to save multiple worlds from chaos and destruction unfolds into a tale of epic proportions....a closer look at the brilliant complexity of his Dark Tower world should explain why this bestselling author has finally been recognized for his contribution to the contemporary literary canon. With the conclusion of this tale...King has certainly reached the top of his game." (Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The Best Audiobook Series of All Time by Genre

What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

My favorite story of all time!

I began this story the first time in 11th grade in 1981. I have read it many times since and have shared the pain and hope of the gunslinger's journey in my own heart. Hearing it read to me shines a new light on a familiar story. I loved it! Long days and pleasant nights Roland.

The wheel came 'round again.

I revisit Roland's journey time and time again. This was the first time audibly. I'm glad I decided to go ahead and invest in the audio books as well, especially the last 3. I could listen to George Guidall speak as Roland all day long. His voicing of the character is so good. Perfect, in my opinion. He's got a real talent for the various other voices too but Roland's was my hands down favorite.

The Dark Tower books.

Many years ago I began reading Stephen Kings work. I read the DARK TOWER SERIES as they were written and released. Now with the advent of audio books I chose to listen to the story in it's entirety. I was not disappointed. to be able to go from 1st. to last without long intervals in between made it that much more enjoyable. I am an avid King reader I find his work both enjoyable and sometimes horrific , however I always come back for more.

my favorite.

Stephen King's best, I wish they would redo all 7 books using the same narrator. it kinda messes up the flow.

Unbelievable

The greatest story ever told by man. If you only have one story to be told to you, this is the one you want to read or hear.

Loved it! Brilliant finale to a life's work!

Worth the wait, and that's really saying something! (Great narrator as well!) Only King could write the perfect ending for an eternal story.
For those of us who made it all this way with Roland, this book makes clear we are also ka-tet and we were right to trust our Din. Let us remember; with Mr.King there are always more worlds than these! (Have you pre- ordered your copy of "If It Bleeds" yet?)
