There are better Bryan Smith books but still good

Would you listen to The Dark Ones again? Why?

Nope. Not that kind of book. Once is plenty.

What other book might you compare The Dark Ones to and why?

Written in a very Edward Lee style. Flesh Gothic springs to mind.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was the worse part for me. He was too old for the book. It needed a younger narrator. I like Nick Podehl for this. He read The Beginning of the End: Apocalypse Z and had a great voice for a young man.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

Any additional comments?

I like Bryan Smith. I appreciate that he always writes as an East Tennessean which I am as well. This wasnt one of my favorites by him. The freakshow holds that title

Smith VS Miller

Tim Miller got me into the extreme horror genre. His stories are gruesome, violent and depraved. I loved his stories and how they fed my love for the sinister and horrifying, but that said I never considered his writing style to be at a professional level. He is somewhat amateurish in his approach and after a while you see a lot of the same kill scenes from one book to the next. So do I like Tim Miller? Yes, I like it for what it is, trash literature. Now Bryan Smith is a completely different animal. He is a true artist. A wordsmith with a talent that's uncommon in this genre. I love that Smith can deliver the guts and gore while at the same time keeping his story beautifully written. Bryan Smith isn’t a trash novelists, he is an artist. He keeps you wanting more and has never disappointed. When reading Tim Miller i often find myself rolling my eyes at points before continuing. Yes, i still continue because I can forgive the amateur style. I can overcome a eye roll moment in order to consume the rest of the story...But with Smith i NEVER have had a eye roll moment. He keeps his stories tightly written and without plot holes or that feeling of "wait, what, did I miss something?" I just can't express how much I love Bryan Smiths stories. He is, in my opinion the most talented author in this genre of horror, or any genre of horror fiction for that matter. I can't wait for his next masterpiece.
Please Mr. Smith if you happen to ever read this, just know that you are a truly talented author and every thing you have written so far is a true work of art. Thank you for telling us your stories and please keep bringing us more.

Not too bad

I wasn't expecting too much and that made for a good listen. It's a nice pace book and I enjoyed the narrator.
