Publisher's summary

Fifteen-year-old Christopher Boone has Asperger's Syndrome, a condition similar to autism. He doesn't like to be touched or meet new people, he cannot make small talk, and he hates the colors brown and yellow. He is a math whiz with a very logical brain who loves solving puzzles that have definite answers.

One night, he observes that the neighbor's dog has been killed, since it is not moving and has a large garden fork stuck in its body. Christopher knows this is wrong. He has never left his street on his own before, but now he'll have to in order to find out who killed the dog. What he discovers will shake the very foundation of his perfectly ordered life.

Critically acclaimed author Mark Haddon, a two-time BAFTA winner, crafts a stunning masterpiece that is funny, honest, and incredibly moving.

Editorial Review

Mark Haddon’s engrossing and intensely human novel about an autistic boy investigating the murder of a neighbor’s dog remains one of my favorite feats of storytelling. And I consider myself especially fortunate to have experienced it for the first time in audio. Award-winning narrator Jeff Woodman masterfully captures Christopher’s youth, intelligence and disarming directness, employing a detached delivery that conveys his condition while hinting at a rich emotional life that lays just underneath. It’s a beautifully nuanced performance that’s authentic, effortless, and deeply affecting. —Reid., Audible Editor

Very enjoyable.

I could not stop listening. It was a very interesting point of view you don't normally see in books.

I couldn’t put the book down

Seeing this story through the eyes and mind of Christoper really made this book. I read it in under week because I had to find out what would unfold next. Well worth the read / listen.

Agree with many of the others

I'm at hour 5 1/2 in this 6 hour long book and find that I have to agree with many of the reviewers - this book starts very interestingly, but then bogs down in repetitive, tedious detail. A book half this length could have made the point that this author seems to be making. I think the best thing he did was create a very unusual story and unique character; my only complaint was the length of time the story droned on. It definitely would make a better read, so that you could skim the middle section.

I can't even put it to words...

This book moved me, and that's something I didn't know a book like this could even do. I think this book is one of the greatest ever written and I recommend it to all people bored with the typical book and want something different,

Loved the book, great voices from the reader.

I loved the book and the reader did a great job reading it but the were so things about the plot they weren't the best. There was no hard to understand metaphors with made the book more comprehensive. There were also some funny bits too. Overall 5/5

Insight into Autism Thought Patterns

Assuming it is accurate, I have no basis for comparison, this story offers a clear and fascinating insight into one person’s autistic thinking mind. For those, like myself, with no prior experience with anyone significantly on the spectrum of autism, the book helped me grasp the basics of what it may be like.

An All-Time Favorite

I read this when I was in high-school, I believe. I couldn't remember anything from the book, just that I truly enjoyed it. So, as I recommended it to my 12 yo, I decided to re-read it, and got the audio-version.

Great idea!

This is such a feat by the author.Such a well-balanced book in every possible way.
Certainly worth a listen.
