I spend about 55 hours a week driving and really enjoy having a good book to pass the miles.

    "Soap opera for men"

I have really enjoyed this series by W. E. B. Griffin. The character development is great and the narrator, Eric G Dove is very good. This entire series has been like a soap opera for men. I find myself getting attached to some characters and not liking others. There is plenty of military action but there is also some of the day to day stuff that happens in life. The descriptions of the day to day life in the military is very accurate and the details are spot on. The narrator gets most of his terminology right and keeps his characters in their unique style of voice throughout the series. If you're a military history buff or just looking for a good series to start give this one a try.

    "Pleasant experience"
What did you love best about The Colonels?

Glad that they are finally producing the BoW series and hopefully the publishers will finish out the series and TC also.

What about Eric G. Dove’s performance did you like?

While his voice is pleasant and much less aggravating than Dick Hill, Dove has no idea (and obviously neither does the editor) about the military or the language. It is the simple things like misstating military time (one=thousand hours, not ten=hundred hours on a 24 hour military clock). But Dove does know it is a [M Nineteen-eleven A one] pistol not a [M one nine one one A one] pistol. Significant improvement over listening to Dick Hill in the other books. Enjoyable listen and recommend it to other W E B G fans.

    Any additional comments?

Pick it up, its a worthy listen but you need to start with the Lieutenants.

"A great continuation of the Brotherhood of War."

The Colonels is the fourth book in W.E.B. Griffin's series Brotherhood of War. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series so far, including The Colonels.

It had been a few months since reading the preceding books and I liked how Griffin provided information about the characters in the previous books. This was perfect for refreshing my memory me of them, and will also be perfect for readers that can enjoy the story without having to read the previous books.

I especially liked the character, Craig Lowell. I also liked learning about the build up to the Vietnam War. I definitely plan on reading the next book in the series, The Berets, which is Book 5.

The reader, Eric G. Dove was excellent!

    "Yep...another good one"

Fourth in the series, just as exciting as the previous three. Our heroes proceed along their careers, meshed in the history of the USA during the late 50s to early 60s. Is the Army that root bound? On to number five!

    "Really disliked The Colonels"

I bought it because I have been reading the series. Unfortunately, I've downloaded the Berets already or I'd stop here. Fortunately both this one and the Berets I bought at Audible's ½ price sale. I don't find any of the characters sympathetic as I have in Griffin's other series where I really liked Charlie Castillo, or Marine McCoy or many of the others. Lowell is just an unsympathetic rich guy who proves impossible to resist by various really sympathetic women (or so the story would have it). He's wealthy, full of himself, Dove's narration has him speaking with marbles in his mouth (although American English as opposed to British where one usually meets the marbles). I suppose I kept plugging on to pick up nuggets of the history, but there isn't enough in this one. Really bad. Going forward, I will avoid books with Dove as narrator and regret that there aren't more of Griffin's I'll be reading mainly because he's now writing with Butterworh and/or I don't like the narrators. I've ready 7 of the Presidential Agent Series (won't touch 8), all of the Corps series (which I really liked) and the first book of Honor Bound.l That's it for me.

    "Wheels have started to wobble"
What did you like best about The Colonels? What did you like least?

I enjoy hearing the progression of the characters. I felt like this book was mostly just filler to segue from one story to another. I am hoping the next has more action and character development than this one, or I will be done with the series.

If you’ve listened to books by W. E. B. Griffin before, how does this one compare?

This one is the worst of the series so far. The first ones were great, but this one was pretty boring.

Do you think The Colonels needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I hope so. This one didn't develop anything earth-shattering.
