An original holiday story with meaty content

Whether you're following this series or this group of characters is new to you, you will find them pesenting a holday story well worth hearing! So many holiday stories are predictable, honey-sweet stories that don't challenge the listener. The characters in the series have become old friends over time, but whether you're new to the series or not, you won't be sorry if you choose this story for the holidays. At first, I wasn't sure that I could listen to Christina Moore as the narrator, but I've found that she's become the perfect voice for characters that I've grown to love. I am not a quilter and thought the subject matter might be boring, but I was wrong! I learned about history while treating myself to a 'clean' and 'uplifting story' that was meaty in content and very different than the usual holiday story line. It was wonderful to be able to play this book in the presence of children and friends without needing to apologize for curse words or x-rated content. If you choose this book, you'll have a rich story with historic content that you will find enriching to your modern holiday. Sometimes, we grow tired of 'so many sweets' at the holidays and we find ourselves craving some calories with nutritional content - you'll find that in this story!

Good Story

The story is good, only drawback is that it was recorded from a cassette and it states to turn the cassette over. Otherwise, good Christmas story.

What was the point of this?

I love this series, but this was very disappointing. I don't get it - for one thing, it's either placed out of order in the series or just goes back in chronology, but at least 60% of it hashes over events that were included in the previous books, often using the exact same words to relate the event. It was previously recorded on cassette and annoyingly tells us to turn the cassette over. I can't help but think the author needed some extra cash for Christmas shopping so hastily pieced together (no pun intended) little bits of previous stories and published a quick summary. Don't bother with this one. You won't miss anything! I will go on to the next and hope that she returns to the well written, enjoyable stories that I have so far loved.

Beautiful story-lots of threads.

I live to sew and sew to live. I love being able to listen to these wonderful stories of women lives, friendships and challenges while I'm sewing. You really don't need to know how to sew or quilt to appreciate thesae stories. I have also listened while driving and not wanted to get out of the car after an entire day of driving.

nice light christmas story

I enjoyed this light christmas book about generations working on an unfinished quilt. It was light, pleasant, with a nice Christmas ring to it. An easy festive listen.

I finished the book wanting less

This book was a disappointment. It did nothing to progress the Silvia Compson story. Silvia appears even more bitter and unlikeable than in earlier novels. While one of the plot lines was intended to provide background into her sisters life and motivation, this reader was still left with an unflattering picture of Claudia, and her relationship with Sylvia.

The book was a reprise of various plots in other books in the series and lacked the historical references other books in the series bring.

Cassette recording message

I like most of the Elm Creek stories. This was a novel and a repeat of some stories I read in other books. It was good. The recording was not. There was the old “this side is finished, flip the cassette over to continue the recording” or similar about half way into the book through to the end. It broke the enjoyment of my experience and the story.

the story was enjoyable

why didn't you guys take out the prompts for when it was a cassette. hated the end of each place where a cassette would end with (ex.) this is the end of cassette # 5 please forward to the end and turn the cassette over for the second part of cassette #5. It ruins the book!

Fair to good

Backstory of the Bergstrom family, reaching back generations. The story reaches back to when the Bergstroms first came to America and lived in a cabin. It lays the groundwork for the rest of the series.
