Publisher's summary

Donna VanLiere's Christmas books have enthralled millions of readers and listeners. Now she delivers another inspirational novel about an unlikely friendship between two women—a friendship that will change each of their lives forever.

The Christmas Note is now a Hallmark TV movie!

Gretchen Daniels has recently moved into a condo with her two children to be closer to her mother, Miriam. As they build a life together in their new community, they notice a mysterious young woman, Melissa McCreary, who lives next door. She has few possessions, little personality, and keeps to herself. One day a local landlord who is looking for Melissa knocks on Gretchen's door for assistance. Melissa's mother has died and in the coming weeks the landlord needs Melissa to empty her mother's apartment. Gretchen reaches out and offers to help Melissa, but the apartment is a gut-wrenching shamble of a home. There is little worth saving except for a few photos and a note that is discovered on the crate beside the bed. It is unfinished, but in the two scribbled lines, Melissa discovers secrets about her family that she never could have imagined. Can two very different women embark on a journey that explores a long-buried need for forgiveness, hope, and redemption?

Critic reviews

“[The Christmas Note] is perfect to pop in the car for a holiday road trip. It's read by the author, an accomplished dramatist who pulls off a variety of voices and accents with ease.” —Crosswalk.com

“This little book gets off to a slow start, but soon, if you are amenable, hooks you into its sentimentality. Lots of praying in this story, where the characters believe (or come to believe) that things happen for a reason. Simple and sweet.” —Ft. Worth Star-Telegram

“While this story certainly has a holiday setting, the emphasis is on love and generosity which will warm hearts at any time. The audio edition is especially affecting as read by the author, Donna VanLiere, who also gave us the Christmas Hope series…Many will be adding this audio to their list of favorite holiday stories.” —All Things Good and More

“Author VanLiere does a wonderful job narrating the story. She gives warmth and compassion to the characters… THE CHRISTMAS NOTE is a heart-warming story perfect for the holidays” —Thoughts in Progress

I love her books

I love her Christmas books. They are very simple and warm hearted stories. I love the well developed characters and think the narration is great! My only issue with this one was that it was completely unbelievable. Her books aren’t necessarily completely believable, but this one was so far of a stretch that it was just a little too much. Very warm hearted though and enjoyable...just a stretch though and not one of my favorites

Became a Fan Reading this Book

This is the first time of read Donna VanLiere. While I found the story a little far-fetched I did appreciate the spirit of the book, and look forward to reading more VanLiere titles. I enjoyed reading about the depth of feeling between the characters and enjoyed reading such an uplifting story during the holiday season. I could easily recommend this book as a good read to any friend or family member, especially if they were looking for a feel good read.

Warm Christmas Story of Hope

Someone who reviewed this book said it was like a Hallmark movie, to which I say, so what? This is a great listen for the holidays, full of faith, joy, and hope. I love Donna VanLiere's books, because they always give us a glimpse into everyday flawed lives that are in need of grace and love . . . as are we all. If that is off putting, then her books are not for you. Her stories are wholesome, family friendly, funny, quirky, and faith affirming. In my estimation, that makes them priceless.

Love At Christmas

Great book to enjoy at Christmas since it weaves a tale of how to love one another, and how we, in turn, may be loved back, God working all the while behind the scenes!

Movie is more heartwarming

Okay, it's a great story. It's told with the right amount of inflection and tone. But after seeing the movie adaptation, I felt that what was left out in the movie actually improved the entire experience. Still awesome though.
