"As swashbuckling as a young Eroll Flynn, languidly escaping death with the ease of a teenage James Bond, this is a roaring adventure....the finest series of historical novels since O'Brien." (The Good Book Guide)
"Brilliantly combines meticulous research with a breakneck pace and a terrific sense of humour." (Historical Novels Review)
"A really enjoyable listen"
I really enjoyed this book - It has a great combination of character, history, action and humour with a bit of love and lust thrown in for good measure. There is a good story which moves along at a pace that keeps your interested, as opposed to other books I have read that pummel you with historical trivia, seemingly aimed at satisfying historians that the author has done a good job of his or her research. I don't know enough about the period to say whether it is historically accurate, but I have read other reviews that the author is on a par with Patrick O'Brien and George MacDonald Fraser, which is good enough for me! I finished listening to "The Blooding" definitely interested in reading or listening to its sequels, to experience more of Jack Absolutes adventures. A highly recommended listen.
"Very entertaining, vivid plot, colourful."
A cleverly plotted book with some great moments and interesting characters. Well worth getting. Highly recommended.
