I would recommend this audiobook to anyone it is a light enjoyable story.
The way Stevie was portrayed throughout the story.
She was very good.
I buy every Milly Johnson book you offer. Every book is different and some I have read several times particularly "Here Come The Girls" it was my favourite. However it was the last book of Milly Johnsons I purchased because of the description, I was not sure if it would be as good as her previous books.
I only bought it because of the author and I could not find anything else that appealed and it was so much better than expected.
Milly johnson is funny, touching and an easy read. I've loved all her books and 4 thumbs up for a wonderful performance by Becky Hindley.
A fast listen and leaves you smiling!!
Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
It took just 10mins for me to be hooked - I really loved this story and just adored all the characters - you cant go past a huge but gentle red-headed Scot.
The narration is perfect and the accents bring life to everyone.
I really do recommend this book - Millie Johnson has done it again.
What would I do without audio books?!!
I enjoy Milly Johnson's books, I wish there were more of them available in the U.S. I think The Birds and the Bees may be my favorite. Although the story follows a predictable formula, the author creates that irresistible pull to see what will happen next. A very enjoyable light read! I give it 5 stars not because it's a masterpiece or would receive critical acclaim, but for the genre it is really wonderful stuff.
Psych RN who dreams of living in a forest inside a hollow tree with my hubby and dog, listening to Audible books while bunnies frolic around
Yes, this book was such a refreshing change and exactly what I'd been looking for. The UK accent of the narrator truly brought out the humor of the book. If I were to read the book myself, I never would have enjoyed the story to the the level that I did.
That it was funny and the reviews were actually true. The story was believable, the characters unique in their own way (not too sappy like a romance novel) and just what I look for in a chick-lit book. I laughed out loud with Stevie's version of the "F" word.
I thought Stevie's son, although not a major character in the book, was enjoyable and unexpected for me. The character of Adam narrated by Becky Hindley was just perfect. I admire the way she could switch from Adam's accent to another characters' seamlessly.
Yes. I tried to control myself and only listen on my drive to and from work to make it last, but I couldn't do it.
I am so frustrated with best seller lists. I have been disappointed so many times in books I've downloaded which is why I am going to make a conscious effort to write more of my own reviews or at least give the books I've listened to an honest score. I think we all should try.
I truly enjoyed the performance by Becky Hindley. The story was lite and funny. It's a quick listen but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the english and scottish accent. There is no way I would have been able to imagine that dialect in my mind as I read.
The grass may look greener on the other side but watch out, it could be astroturf.
I love all the Milly Johnson books I have listened to. They seem to be a perfect blend of light, funny and cute without being over the top or over romanced. Love them!
No matter how many times i attempted getting through the first couple of chapters i couldn't, on occasion i fell asleep to the monotone of the narrator. I havent managed to get through the bloody thing so i cant tell you that the story is a complete loss, nor i can say that it continues in the exact manner as the first chapters. What i can say is i think its a miserable audio book and im upset that i wasted my time and money on it.
It was too slow, didnt captivate, or spark any imagination.
Im not sure, probably not.
I would rewrite the first chapter of the book and make it interesting
Im being bias. I havent read the whole thing, and if the first chapters are any indication of the rest of the story then i've made the right choice by not forcing myself through it.
author of books for teens and children
I took my dog for an extra long walk, ironed, and did other chores to give me excuses to keep listening to this audiobook. It's a fast-paced, sweet, funny love story with a wonderful, well-developed protagonist. If you're a fan of Sophie Kinsella, I bet you'll be a fan of this book too.
Definitly in the top 80%
A spring afair. Both deal with unfaithful partners in a digestable way
Very good narrater - loved her
"So good...!!! Looked like a lunitic"
I looked like a lunatic because this made me laugh on my own.....best author I have read for a long time...can't wait to down load the next one
"Not the usual narrator for Milly Johnson"
I didn't realise when I bought this that the narrator is not the usual Colleen Prendergast.
Becky Hindley does a dreadful Scottish accent. The hero, Adam is from the Scottish highlands so quite why his accent swings from VERY broad Glasgow to upper class east coast Edinburgh is a complete mystery and made him sound a complete idiot - it was hard to believe that Stevie would ever fall for such a moron. It quite spoilt the book for me and I bought it for my Kindle instead. I'd recommend listening to the sample closely if you happen to be Scottish.
Milly Johnson is always wonderful - which I couldn't have told from this narration.
"Lovely story and a few laughs!"
Really enjoyed this book. Lots of humour and a good storyline. Lots of very funny moments and well read.
Interesting plot and some lovely twists.
Liked the way all the characters were portrayed.
I love Milly Johnsons books. Ive only just discovered her but am quickly working my way through them. A good mixture of fun, tears, twists and turns
Adam Maclean. Reason? Well I dont want to spoil the story for you!
at the summer party/bbq. it was a turning point in the story
Yes, but again I dont want to spoil the story for anyone new to the book :)
I enjoyed this book, and it was narrated well. However I do prefer Collen Predegast for Milly's books
A cracking read (or listen). Enjoyed every minute and also got a sinking feeling toward the middle as I did not want it to end.
A nice voice to listen to. Felt warm and friendly.
Very glad to have discovered a new author to add to my collection.
"Lovely story - shame about the accent!"
I love Milly Johnson and this is my favourite of all her books. Yes it's chick-lit but she has a wonderful gift for creating characters that draw you in from the very beginning and about whom you really care. They are real people leading real lives and the things that happen to them feel perfectly believable. I also find that, unlike most stories in the genre, she does have the ability to keep you guessing a little and this is especially the case in "The Birds and the Bees" as you wonder who will end up with who. Generally the narration on this audiobook is good - I liked Becky Hindley's voice and was generally very happy with her reading. However, it's a great shame that Adam McLean, far from being the Highland Scot that he is meant to be, now appears to be from Northern Ireland and I think she fails utterly to capture his character.Once I accepted that however, I still managed to thoroughly enjoy the story.
Other books by Milly Johnson
If it doesn't involve the need for Scottish accents - almost certainly.
It makes me laugh AND cry no matter how many times I read the book/listen to the story.
This made me laugh out loud, loved the 2 characters in it and all the mis understandings!
