I would recommend this audiobook to anyone it is a light enjoyable story.
The way Stevie was portrayed throughout the story.
She was very good.
I buy every Milly Johnson book you offer. Every book is different and some I have read several times particularly "Here Come The Girls" it was my favourite. However it was the last book of Milly Johnsons I purchased because of the description, I was not sure if it would be as good as her previous books.
I only bought it because of the author and I could not find anything else that appealed and it was so much better than expected.
Its an weird thing but my favourite genre to read is murder/mystery books but when it comes to audio books, I love ChicLit! Odd I know!
It took just 10mins for me to be hooked - I really loved this story and just adored all the characters - you cant go past a huge but gentle red-headed Scot.
The narration is perfect and the accents bring life to everyone.
I really do recommend this book - Millie Johnson has done it again.

Yes, this book was such a refreshing change and exactly what I'd been looking for. The UK accent of the narrator truly brought out the humor of the book. If I were to read the book myself, I never would have enjoyed the story to the the level that I did.
That it was funny and the reviews were actually true. The story was believable, the characters unique in their own way (not too sappy like a romance novel) and just what I look for in a chick-lit book. I laughed out loud with Stevie's version of the "F" word.
I thought Stevie's son, although not a major character in the book, was enjoyable and unexpected for me. The character of Adam narrated by Becky Hindley was just perfect. I admire the way she could switch from Adam's accent to another characters' seamlessly.
Yes. I tried to control myself and only listen on my drive to and from work to make it last, but I couldn't do it.
I am so frustrated with best seller lists. I have been disappointed so many times in books I've downloaded which is why I am going to make a conscious effort to write more of my own reviews or at least give the books I've listened to an honest score. I think we all should try.
What would I do without audio books?!!
I enjoy Milly Johnson's books, I wish there were more of them available in the U.S. I think The Birds and the Bees may be my favorite. Although the story follows a predictable formula, the author creates that irresistible pull to see what will happen next. A very enjoyable light read! I give it 5 stars not because it's a masterpiece or would receive critical acclaim, but for the genre it is really wonderful stuff.
Milly johnson is funny, touching and an easy read. I've loved all her books and 4 thumbs up for a wonderful performance by Becky Hindley.
A fast listen and leaves you smiling!!
No matter how many times i attempted getting through the first couple of chapters i couldn't, on occasion i fell asleep to the monotone of the narrator. I havent managed to get through the bloody thing so i cant tell you that the story is a complete loss, nor i can say that it continues in the exact manner as the first chapters. What i can say is i think its a miserable audio book and im upset that i wasted my time and money on it.
It was too slow, didnt captivate, or spark any imagination.
Im not sure, probably not.
I would rewrite the first chapter of the book and make it interesting
Im being bias. I havent read the whole thing, and if the first chapters are any indication of the rest of the story then i've made the right choice by not forcing myself through it.
I truly enjoyed the performance by Becky Hindley. The story was lite and funny. It's a quick listen but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the english and scottish accent. There is no way I would have been able to imagine that dialect in my mind as I read.
The grass may look greener on the other side but watch out, it could be astroturf.
I love all the Milly Johnson books I have listened to. They seem to be a perfect blend of light, funny and cute without being over the top or over romanced. Love them!
I will not purchase another book narrated by Becky Hindley. She sounds OLD and stuffy. Colleen Prendergast is the perfect narrator for Ms. Johnson's books. She is light, cheery, fun and tender when needed. This woman is just AWFUL!!!
No. If I don't like the sound of the narrator, why would I put anyone I care about in the position to listen to her?
Colleen Prendergast. She is perfect in the other Milly Johnson books I've listened to (about 6 so far in the last 3-4 weeks!).
Yes. It inspired me to pay more attention to the name of the narrator. I will not ever purchase another book read by Becky Hindley.
This was my first Milly Johnson book and I loved it! I will be looking for more! A variety of characters that didn't follow the cookie cutter chick flick mold!
"Not the usual narrator for Milly Johnson"
I didn't realise when I bought this that the narrator is not the usual Colleen Prendergast.
Becky Hindley does a dreadful Scottish accent. The hero, Adam is from the Scottish highlands so quite why his accent swings from VERY broad Glasgow to upper class east coast Edinburgh is a complete mystery and made him sound a complete idiot - it was hard to believe that Stevie would ever fall for such a moron. It quite spoilt the book for me and I bought it for my Kindle instead. I'd recommend listening to the sample closely if you happen to be Scottish.
Milly Johnson is always wonderful - which I couldn't have told from this narration.
"So good...!!! Looked like a lunitic"
I looked like a lunatic because this made me laugh on my own.....best author I have read for a long time...can't wait to down load the next one
I love Milly Johnsons books. Ive only just discovered her but am quickly working my way through them. A good mixture of fun, tears, twists and turns
Adam Maclean. Reason? Well I dont want to spoil the story for you!
at the summer party/bbq. it was a turning point in the story
Yes, but again I dont want to spoil the story for anyone new to the book :)
I enjoyed this book, and it was narrated well. However I do prefer Collen Predegast for Milly's books
"Warms the heart"
This is the second book I've chosen by Milly Johnson which I found to be as good as the first.
Both had a splash of humour and she has a way of writing which I found cheering....
I liked the characters and wanted to know what was going to be the outcome.
"Another good read from Milly"
Another good storyline from Milly. Loved the characters and the frustration of their misconceptions. Pity the readers Scottish accent had Belfast overtones though
"Good Story Ruined by Narrator's Appalling Accent"
Milly Johnson's stories are generally lighthearted fluff with easily identifiable characters and fair doses of comeuppance for those who treat the doormat heroines/heros badly. Great for listening to in the car when you need the light wash of a companionable listen rather than attention to plot detail.
The Birds and the Bees falls badly into the trap of using 'Scottish male' as a stereotypical, emotionally retarded and violent boor for most of the book ad nauseum.
There are flashes of the usual Milly Johnson and the continuing threads of familiar places and links.
Her stories are all very similar but that easy familiarity is their attraction.
To be fair she is ok when narrating generally but her alleged Scottish accent is so badly rendered it grates massively. It swings wildly from Glasgow slums to cartoon character Highlander via Belfast. Not one rendering of her travelling accent is decent but it might have been more bearable if she'd chosen one and stuck to it.
Whoever who told the narrator her accent was acceptable and allowed her slurred, mangled rendition to go into this recording needs fired.
The awful narration only inspired me to return the book but I did want to find out how the story resolved.
Definitely go for the Colleen Prendergast versions and avoid this unless you've absolutely no frame of reference regarding what any Scottish accent sounds like. Afterwards you'll be no more informed.....!
"Lovey dovey mish mosh but wonderful"
I am usually a crime listener and first listened to Here Come the Girls as a buy one get one free offer and thought it would make a change. As I really enjoyed that book so much I thought I'd try another and this one The birds and the bees was absolutely lovely I have realised that I do like listening to something soppy and I really do like and happy ending and for anyone who feels miserable or down I suggest they take one of these books and get stuck into them now
"Birds and bees slow to start then fab"
I have listened to all the Milly Johnson's available on audible and can honestly say this book took the longest to get into but once I did I really enjoyed it.
Great book. The scenario was a bit unbelievable, but enjoyable non the less. Quite funny in parts. Enjoyed the outcome. Agree with other comments about the narrators Scottish accent!
"Lovely story and a few laughs!"
Really enjoyed this book. Lots of humour and a good storyline. Lots of very funny moments and well read.
Interesting plot and some lovely twists.
Liked the way all the characters were portrayed.
