The classic story of paradise found - and lost.
Richard lands in East Asia in search of an earthly utopia. In Thailand he is given a map promising an unknown island, a secluded beach - and a new way of life.
What Richard finds when he gets there is breathtaking: more extraordinary, more frightening than his wildest dreams. But how long can paradise survive here on Earth? And what lengths will Richard go to in order to save it?

"20 years waiting for this audiobook!"
20 years waiting for this audiobook! I can’t believe it was 20 years ago this came out, it was all the talk of my pals and I one summer when we were all 16. I read the book about 3 times and loved it every time.
The Audio edition is great but only slightly let down by the narrators poor Scottish accent when doing the Daffy Character. I am Scottish and when the accent is butchered I find it irritating. Other than that he did a pretty solid job.
Read the book a few years ago and the audio version is even better. The narration is excellent , just how I would imagine Richard [the teller of the story] would speak. All the accents of the various characters are so well done.
Exceptional story: dark and full of the menace of humanity. Exceptional narrator: Theon from Game of Thrones has all the ascents and a real flair for telling the story how it should be told! Bloody loved it.
"Alfie sounds less than enthused."
Story wise; the beach is simply a classic, but the narration makes it seems like documentary on cardboard, Alfie Allen sounds as though he just can't be bothered and this is very dissapointing as it does not do the writing justice.
The book is amazing. The characters are vivid and make you want to hear the story and know what happens next. My only disappointment is that the audio was a little monotone but this did get better as the story developed. This is mainly due to how brilliantly the book is written.
waited a long time for this, and it paid off. incredible book with really articulate narrator!
