Publisher's summary

In The Auerbach Will, the novel by America's most renowned chronicler of the rich, ambitious young Essie Litsky defies a rigid upbringing by immigrant Russian Jewish parents to achieve wealth and success. But her children tear Essie and her husband Jack Auerbach's family apart in fights over their fortune, and Essie finds that money will not mend broken lives.

Stephen Birmingham concludes this complex family saga, set in the Park Avenue world he first portrayed in the best-selling Our Crowd, with a surprise revelation. The story of Essie Auerbach and the Auerbach Will is unforgettable.

Interesting and Engaging

I was surprised I liked this book so much. An exploration of the friction between America’s established German Jews and the newly immigrated Russian Jews at the start of the 20th century. Also, a story about how money can corrupt values and relationships. Very well narrated by a full cast.

Interesting family dynamics

I really enjoyed this book. The narrators did a wonderful job bringing out the personalities of their individual characters. I particularly liked Essie and Charles. The development of their relationship was predictable but written tastefully. This story spans from early 1900's to the 1980's and I found the evolution of the Auerbach family very interesting.

Just awesome

with a family like the Auerbach's no outside enemies are needed the story takes you on a emotional journey Jack and Essie are like most couples in the early stages of their lives wanting a family and giving them all they want and then they become rich things starts breaking down
the grown children are greedy ungrateful and just not loving but I see where they got it from Essie was no mom of the year and didn't show motherly love even the awful things that's goes on under her roof with her young son just shows how distant she was from her children
the book is long but I enjoy the narrators very much the laugh out moments are so good it makes the story real love it I would read /listen this author and narrators again

Not for me

I gave this 5 chapters before giving up on it. The storyline really never develops and the readers were shiny and laughable.!
