Publisher's summary

The best-selling novel about the queen who founded the Tudor dynasty. ‘A bewitching first novel…alive with historical detail’ Good Housekeeping.

Her beauty fuelled a war.
Her courage captured a king.
Her passion would launch the Tudor dynasty.

When her own first child is tragically still-born, the young Mette is pressed into service as a wet-nurse at the court of the mad king, Charles VI of France. Her young charge is the princess, Catherine de Valois, caught up in the turbulence and chaos of life at court.

Mette and the child forge a bond, one that transcends Mette’s lowly position.
But as Catherine approaches womanhood, her unique position seals her fate as a pawn between two powerful dynasties. Her brother, The Dauphin and the dark and sinister, Duke of Burgundy will both use Catherine to further the cause of France.

Catherine is powerless to stop them, but with the French defeat at the Battle of Agincourt, the tables turn and suddenly her currency has never been higher. But can Mette protect Catherine from forces at court who seek to harm her or will her loyalty to Catherine place her in even greater danger?

The pages of History: Written by the blood of Agincourt

This book is a masterpiece of balance. Many books use letters to tell the story - and suffer from a dryness and stilted one sided view. This book uses letters that were never sent or read, to reveal the heart of the young protagonist. The primary voice of the story is a loyal confidant and servant of Queen Catherine who never read the letters but provides the daily story and insight into the young Catherine's heart.
It is beautifully written. The characters are memorable. The life of the French court and the sick king are portrayed in contrast to the poverty of the serfs and stoicism of the English king and court. Many of the characters change allegiances. While you may not be sure which side you would have favored when you begin the book, by the end you will be sure.

Surprisingly enjoyable

Would you listen to The Agincourt Bride again? Why?

Yes I probably would. I loved the narration and mostly enjoyed the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Agincourt Bride?

The Battle of Agincourt description.
The bond between Giomette and Catherine.
The birth-scene of Elise's daughter.
The wedding planning and wedding between Catherine and Henry.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene in the glen when they have Owen play the harp and then King Henry plays for Catherine.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I really wish that was possible sometimes!

Any additional comments?

I felt like the last chapter was very rushed but other than that I really loved the book.

Good story, excellent narration

This is a good read. Entertaining and very well narrated. Gave it four stars because for
me, it was lacking excitement - everything took place within the palace and France. I like more action.

Beautiful presentation

Really enjoyed the book. How accurate it was is debatable but the story was interesting and moved well. The reader was wonderful, beautiful voice. Sorry I can’t get the sequel in the USA.

This was a very good historical novel

I liked the characters and how they were developed. Some of the writing was a little too modern for the times but it did not interfere

Oh...I hope this is just the beginning of a series

The Agincourt Bride was fascinating and I was totally absorbed. There was a perfect mix of historical information and fiction to give the book life. The narrator was enchanting and I will look for more titles narrated by her. I thought the book was well researched and well written. I hope it ended the way it did because a second book is in the works.
