Publisher's Summary

The downloadable, digital audiobook edition of Rick Yancey’s gripping epic, read by the actors Phoebe Strole and Brandon Espinoza.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: Trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave.

On a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, until Cassie meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be her only hope for rescuing her brother and even saving herself. Now she must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up. Cassie Sullivan gets up.

    "Could have been much better"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not sure, it's a good story but I only enjoyed Cassie's part of the narration and found the other half to be boring.

Would you be willing to try another book from Rick Yancey? Why or why not?

When I listened to the first part of this I was already searching for the sequel but having finished now I'm not sure I would bother with it.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, but the female narrator was far superior and I felt drawn into the character of Cassie. The first person narration helped.

Could you see The 5th Wave being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes I think it could easily be a film for young adults.

    Any additional comments?

Overall a decent story but I only loved half of it - the female narrated parts telling Caaie's story. I can see why the writer split the story - so we get a different perspective on things, but really I would rather have just followed Cassie for the whole story. I found her story moving and believable.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Gripping from start to finish. The story flows and just when you think you know what is coming, off you go somewhere else. Full of believable characters, this book left me wanting a sequel.

    "You will Love this book!"
What made the experience of listening to The 5th Wave the most enjoyable?

The two narrators were excellent! I knew exactly which character was speaking and they were two of the best narrators I have listened to in a while. Totally drew you into the story!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the different view points told in the story. Made you relate to each character and understand what they were thinking or feeling at the time! I also just loved the story, totally refreshing and love that it included flashbacks so you understood characters backstory!

Which character – as performed by Phoebe Strole and Brandon Espinoza – was your favourite?

I loved Cassie! Her inner monologue was great, totally relatable and expected for a 16 year old dealing with what she has to deal with! I loved her!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both! Cassie's thoughts often made me laugh, they were very realistic and just very funny without meaning to be! It was also very emotional and at certain points there were tears in my eyes!

    Any additional comments?

If you have readers block and are sick of hearing the same story over and over read this book! Totally different to books I have read before and while some elements are similar it's given a fresh take on them and you won't be disappointed!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Unique, fabulous. Didn't want to stop listening

What was one of the most memorable moments of The 5th Wave?

The twists and turns. Who were the good guys and who were the bad?

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The last bit I felt every second with Cassie.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Page turner

    Any additional comments?

Also had a moral message about how we look after our tenancy of the Earth

    "Just avoid........."
Would you try another book written by Rick Yancey or narrated by Phoebe Strole and Brandon Espinoza ?

If this is a representative example of Rick Yancey's work then never ever again. The narrators do a creditable job with the pile of poo they were given

What will your next listen be?

Anything that's not by Rick Yancey

Which character – as performed by Phoebe Strole and Brandon Espinoza – was your favourite?

That's difficult as I found the characters unbelievable and uninteresting

What character would you cut from The 5th Wave?

    All of them......

    Any additional comments?

This "book" is an ill conceived piece of rubbish. I have restrained my language but it's a struggle. Now this should be advertised as Young Adult but should only be read/listened too by the sort of YA who likes vampires/hunger games sort of books. Anyone who doesn't want their ears/eyes assaulted by teenage emoting and has a few brain cells will just be annoyed. The plot "twists" are telegraphed to anyone with a decent grasp of English and are laughable. I spent the entire book shouting at my iphone much to the amusement of my kids and yes I did finish it. It's a compulsion of mine no matter how shocking the material to get to the end. If there was a way I could return this stinking pile of excrement and get my money back I would. In short I didn't enjoy and don't think you will either!
