Publisher's summary

The year 2060 is drawing to a close, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's a time for loved ones to come together. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water....

For Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD, the job is a useful reminder of what she has to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke's big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it's a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.

Other couples aren't as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying on the floor of their Downing Street apartment, stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned - and even more heartbroken by the overwhelming evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn't exactly made a good impression on all the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him - but they didn't think he was capable of this.

Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he's stolen from his parents, and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry's going to strike next.

Great story

This was a great story plenty of suspense. Enjoy the banter between eve and Roark. The narrator was great and loved how well she did the Irish accents.

another winner

Nora Roberts, writing as JD Robb, is a remarkable story teller, and each book is worth waiting for. Thankless in Death is no exception. Great read.

A Different Perspective

This is different from the usual procedural of the other In Death series. It shifts from Eve's view to the killer's view equally. Therefore the violence described seems more gruesome I suppose. The result is riveting.

Yummy... like a Thanksgiving Turkey

What did you love best about Thankless in Death?

One of my top things I enjoy about the JD Robb series are the connections of family, friends and coworkers. Each book I look forward not only to the murder but to the reunion with the supporting cast. Like most girls, I like gossip and each book is like getting a little bit of gossip on how some of my favorite characters are doing. This book has quite a few connection scenes - more than I'm used to seeing - and I love it all the more for it. Thanksgiving is full of family, friends and food - so why wouldn't this wonderful book that takes place during that time.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have, and this narration is just as wonderful as each of the JD Robb books before... and looking forward to many more.

Any additional comments?

Much of the murder side of the story is from the perspective of the killer - more so than in any of her other books that I can recall. It was also more graphic than usual. I would say that balances very well with the more than usual emotional scenes within the book. There were a few scenes that were tear jerkers for me as I dearly love these characters.

Overall I would give this book more stars if I could - great writing, great narration. Can't wait for the next one!

Great story but...

There is a scene that is described in such detail and at such length I had to fast forward through it. I guess only great writers can elicit physical disgust with their skills with descriptive linguistics. Yikes!

I Love this author and this narrator.

The story kept me interested throughout the entire book. I don't know how you can think up such (somewhat sick and twisted thinking) in the mind of the criminal, but it works. I wasn't able to guess the next move or victim ahead of time.
The voices change per caracter so you cannot mistake who is talking. I got just slightly teary eyed at the very end. So many emotions were at play here.
If you are bothered by the F word, be aware there are a few in here, but it isn't full of them.
