Publisher's Summary

The year 2060 is drawing to a close, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It's a time for loved ones to come together. But sometimes the deepest hatreds seethe within the closest relationships, and blood flows faster than water....

For Lieutenant Eve Dallas of the NYPSD, the job is a useful reminder of what she has to be grateful for this season. Hosting Roarke's big Irish family for the holiday may be challenging, but it's a joyful improvement on her own dark childhood.

Other couples aren't as lucky as Eve and Roarke. The Reinholds, for example, are lying on the floor of their Downing Street apartment, stabbed and bludgeoned almost beyond recognition. Those who knew them are stunned - and even more heartbroken by the overwhelming evidence that they were murdered by their own son. Twenty-six-year-old Jerry hadn't exactly made a good impression on all the bosses who fired him or the girlfriend who dumped him - but they didn't think he was capable of this.

Turns out Jerry is not only capable of brutality but taking a liking to it. With the money he's stolen from his parents, and a long list of grievances, he intends to finally make his mark on the world. Eve and her team already know the who, how, and why of this murder. What they need to pinpoint is where Jerry's going to strike next.

"Best of the In Death books yet."
What did you love best about Thankless in Death?

The way she brought many of the main characters together.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes but could have done without the torture.

    Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Eve and Roark got their medals.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I cried when Nixie gave Eve the gift and Roark read it.

    Any additional comments?

I am so glad Eve was offered Captains bars and glad she stayed where she is.

"Death Series Went in a different direction"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

of Course - I have enjoyed all of the books, always feels like I am with friends when I listen to them - I always enjoy Susan Ericksen bringing them back to life.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Nice to see Eve let her heart open a bit more -

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?

I always enjoy Eve and that man of hers - where do we find one like him. :)

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Overall I think this book was more from the criminals point. I wanted more from Eve and other mains - Where were some of them? Marvis, Nadine, we barely heard from Sommerset or Morris...... The Criminal was a bit winey and I got it after the 2nd kill.... I will continue to be a fan, but I hope the next books gets back into some of the personal lives of the gang. Any Change Eve will get pregnant. Now that would be interesting.

    "Loved this book!!!"
What did you like about this audiobook?

I have read/listened to all of the In Death Series books. This is one of the best. I laugh out loud as Dallas struggles to adjust to her growing list of friends and family.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

This book as one error, during the epilogue the narrator finishes the person I am most thankful speech saying Nixie Simpson instead of Swisher.

    "Another Entertaining Eve Dallas Book"

This narrator is my FAVORITE reader. I have friends and family who read this series and I tell them they are missing so much. When Susan portrays Roarke or Peabody it is truly classic. I love the irish brogue of Roarke and his family. This story brought many of the former characters together that we remember and love. I'm not sure that a newcomer would enjoy the story as much. But for the loyal fans this was a Thanksgiving treasure.

"Not The Book I Was Looking Forward To!"
    Any additional comments?

This book was one I eagerly anticipated, but like a few others in the series I feel let down by it. In this case there was too much focus, attention, time and narration spent on the perpetrater of the crimes. Not only do I not read the In Death series for prolonged reads about murderers (which I felt this to be) but it sadly made many steps in the investigation repetitive and much less interesting, ... nothing close to attention binding. At the same time characters were slightly over drawn and acting unlike themselves. Many of the small kind gestures that one often wondered why Dallas seems incapable of making were suddenly flowing from her. Sort of nice to see but without any explanation a little odd. And only one example. But most of all I want to read these books because of their central characters, particularly Dallas, ... otherwise what's the point in following through the series? I do Not want to be treated to what amounts to entire chapters on the murderer's actions, thought processes, and plans. I will look forward to the next with as much enthusiasm as ever, hopefully this time it will be justified.

    "Heart Touching Excitement"

Dallas is still kick ass on the job. Knowing who the murderer is from the start adds salt to the excitement of the story. It was an interesting twist in storytelling that absolutely worked! I didn't want the story to end and I can't wait for the next one in the series.

"Last hour changed, me or the book?"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if my friend also enjoyed murder mystery with a hint of futuristic technology.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, this book doesn't keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what next, but can they?

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OH, the Irish voices! She brings half of the book alive!

If you could rename Thankless in Death, what would you call it?

    Good enough name....

    Any additional comments?

This started as a good entertaining book about murder and became more and more of a story about the people solve those murders....but remained a very good and entertaining book...just in a way I never expected. With thanks....

Just when I thought the series was getting stale JD Robb mixes it up. I loved the different approach. As always, Susan Ericksen is great.
