Beautiful story

The audiobook is not in the same order as the written book. The written book tells Tandia’s story, then, PK, then shared. But the accents are fantastic!

I'M TELLING YOU SOMETHING FOR NOTHING

YOU GOT TO USE PRETTY, WHILE YOU GOT PRETTY
This is a sequel to The Power of One. The book starts with Tandia and she is a main character, but it is really mostly about Peekay. I believe it has even more boxing matches in it then the first book did. This book is not as strong as the first book, but it is a good listen. Do not worry about the 26 and a half hours, they will go by fast.

PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE THROUGH PEOPLE
What made this weaker then book one was the last nine and a half hours. I think BC wanted to spend more time to say what he had to say, but the book was already so long. The result is that the last part of the book is more non-fiction, lecture about apartheid. It seems rushed and this results in less interesting writing. I wish he would have just ended the book and wrote a third book. There are still some good parts in the last nine hours and it is worth your time.

THE NATIVES ARE RESTLESS
Other small complaints are: hard to believe these fighters break ribs, hands and take so much punishment and then within months are back in another big fight, Peekay falls in love with the girlfriend of a good friend twice and each time, it is okay by them, and it is sad that a white man has to be the hero of the black people, I thought it might end up being the Zulu Chief or Tandia, but BC could not let that happen.

ISN'T THAT A LITTLE DRY EYED
Don't let my small complaints keep you from first getting The Power of One and then getting this book. Both books are great.

A MOMENT OF MOMENTS OR DAY OF DAYS
While the story writing fell just short of getting the fifth star, Bower's narration brings the entire experience up a notch. He is an excellent narrator.

Beautifully crafted, narrated and inspiring!

I loved The Power of One and now this one. Love the stories and the beautiful voice of the narrator. I would not enjoy reading these books as much as listening. They inspire me to learn more about South Africa and apartheid. Well done!!

Nice to see you, PeeKay!

I loved the Power of One! It read it when I was in my early teens. I’ve held on to many of the positive messages from the book over the years. I was enamored with most of the characters.

I never knew about Tandia. Someone recommended it to me. I immediately went on a search for it on Audible. After listening to the entire story, I felt like I was visiting a few old friends. I kept waiting for Tandia to meet PeeKay. I missed Doc’s wisdom. PeeKay seemed a bit lost without it. I enjoy meeting a couple new characters. The ending left me rather frustrated. I’m not into spoilers, so I won’t elaborate.

So good. Great follow up.

Can't best The Power of One, but a good follow up. Wraps up most ends satisfactorily, if not sadly.

Non stop, Heart wrenching, Exhilarating!

What made the experience of listening to Tandia the most enjoyable?

The lead book with "PK" in the "Power of One" and the seamless continuation of the story with the introduction of Tandia and her struggles as a "non white" person in South Africa. This is a disgusting and shameful era and the way it was presented kept me listening non stop. It was near impossible to put down.

Who was your favorite character and why?

PK is the hero. Always the champion . . . bright, honest with others and with himself to a fault, but also not perfect. Constantly adjusting based on the situation, but always mindful of others, whether black or white.

Which character – as performed by Humphrey Bower – was your favorite?

King Edward Juicy Fruit Mumbo, Humphrey Bower has so much range and talent. It was like listening to 10 different readers.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to remember. Laugh, joyous, sad, tearful, proud.

Any additional comments?

I've read the Tommo and Hawk trilogy and now Power of One and Tandia. Between the writing of Bryce Courtney and the reading of Humphrey Bower, they're the most enjoyable audio books I've experienced since "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series".

Classic Courtenay

Would you listen to Tandia again? Why?

I don't tend to listen to books twice.

What did you like best about this story?

While entertaining it brings history to life and is thought provoking.

Which scene was your favorite?

The final scene, it was unexpected but I was disappointed the book was over.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It did both.
