Editorial reviews

Few are able to strike fear into an audience with but a few words in the way that Edgar Allen Poe can. Before Stephen King and before Sir Conan Doyle, Poe was crafting some of the greatest stories of suspense and terror. This collection, performed with a grim expertise by veteran narrator Jack Foreman, features some of Poe's most-loved stories such as "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Pit and the Pendulum", and "The Murders in the Rue Morgue". So dim the lights, and turn the volume up ever so slightly, as Jack Foreman takes you into the suspense-filled world of Poe's Tales of Terror.

Publisher's summary

Edgar Allan Poe, the master of terror, wrote some of literature's most entertaining and influential short stories, works that invented or anticipated modern detective novels, science fiction, and the horror genre. Tales of Terror collects nine of Poe's best-loved stories, all performed in chilling, highly dramatic readings by Jack Foreman. This collection includes such classics as "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Fall of the House of Usher", and what many consider his masterpiece, "The Murders in the Rue Morgue." This last tale introduces literature's first great detective, Monsieur Dupin, a character who inspired Sherlock Holmes and generations of other famous fictional sleuths. Filled with suspense, subtle humor, and shocking imagery, Tales of Terror presents Poe at his best.

Critic reviews

"Poe's suspense tales are wonderfully suited to this medium, and the readings - dramatic yet not overdramatic - could hardly be better." (Media Review)

Poe's Best Horror by an Outstanding Narrator

This title was one of the first in the Audible library and remains one of the best. Jack Foreman does an outstanding job providing atmosphere and character. It is surprising that this is the only audiobook narration in the audible library by Mr. Foreman. Like Geraint Wynn Davies, who is also an excellent narrator of horror, he provides just the right tone for impending doom and terror. Other narrators of Poe, including Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone do a fine job but not equal to Mr. Foreman. I highly recommend this reading of an excellent collection of Poe stories.
