Publisher's summary

This collection of five diverse and highly entertaining short stories, straight from the ingenious imagination of New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry, includes one story written exclusively for Blackstone Audio.

"Adventure of the Greenbrier Ghost"

Starring Sherlock Holmes, this tale is based on a real-life ghost story from West Virginia. The basis of the story comes from a court case in the 19th century in which the testimony of a ghost was entered into evidence, leading to the conviction of a murderer. Maberry has thrown Holmes and Watson into the mix for added punch.

"Doctor Nine"

A psychological thriller about a little girl whose imaginary friends are guiding her through the process of becoming a serial killer, this story originally appeared in the anthology Killers and has been reprinted many times.

"Like Part of the Family"

This urban noir fantasy tale introduces werewolf PI Sam Hunter.

"Property Condemned"

Set in Pine Deep, the small town featured in Ghost Road Blues, Dead Man’s Song, and Bad Moon Rising, this is a chilling psychological ghost story.

"Cooked"

An exclusive story written especially for Blackstone Audio.

Critic reviews

“Every so often you discover an author whose writing is so lyrical that it transcends mere storytelling. Jonathan Maberry is just such an author.” (Tess Gerritsen, New York Times best-selling author)

Not for the faint of heart

It took me a few days to listen. Each story has a dark, raw quality that isnt like binging a bunch of Twilight Zone episodes. I recommend this if you like the darker stories, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Certainly worth a listen

The stories were interesting, well written, and easy to listen to. Except Property Condemned, that depressed the hell out of me. The performance was excellent. The range on that man! I thought for certain there were different narrators. I'd recommend it.

enjoyed it all!

I've been listening to quite a few short stories lately and I truly enjoyed the narrator as well as the stories. I will be looking for more from both of these people. thank you!

Satisfying Listen

This was my first foray into the writings of Jonathan Maberry and I am now a fan. Out of the five stories I liked them all except the "Doctor Nine" story, that one did not do anything for me. My favorite was the Sam Hunter story. So in these five stories you will get a little bit of everything. The narrating by Tom Weiner was also good. Recommended

poor

uninspired stories, subpar writing and the narration did not really help.. not sure why this has got many good reviews, maybe cause it was free with audible or..? personally, i would find something else!

Not exactly prime material

I should not have wasted the credit on this book because it’s nowhere near quality of other novels.
The narration is harsh and unequal.

Alas

Well same story different book what’s Blackstone thinking? Just don’t get it. Ray Porter is the only narrator to tel Jonathan Maberry stories. Ouch.
