Publisher's summary

"We're about to cross the point of no return. God help us; we're flying in the dark, and we don't know where the hell we're going."

Facing down an unprecedented malevolent enemy, the government responds with a nuclear attack. America as it was is gone forever, and now every citizen - from the president of the United States to the homeless on the streets of New York City - will fight for survival.

Swan Song is Robert McCammon's prescient and shocking vision of a post-apocalyptic nation, a grand epic of terror and, ultimately, renewal.

In a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, earth's last survivors have been drawn into the final battle between good and evil, that will decide the fate of humanity. They include Sister, who discovers a strange and transformative glass artifact in the destroyed Manhattan streets... Joshua Hutchins, the pro wrestler who takes refuge from the nuclear fallout at a Nebraska gas station... and Swan, a young girl possessing special powers, who travels alongside Josh to a Missouri town where healing and recovery can begin with Swan's gifts. But the ancient force behind earth's devastation is scouring the walking wounded for recruits for its relentless army, beginning with Swan herself.

Read like a movie

This is one of my favorite books of all time and I have read it at least five times over the years. Usually I don’t like another person’s interpretation of the characters as my own is so fixed. This reader was absolutely wonderful. He did such a great job that it was like hearing a movie. His ability to keep character voices realistic and consistent was fabulous. Well done!

Great story, Even better narration.

This was a great story and well-told. The author was not only a top-notch ranconteur but knew how to string together words to make the reader better understand and feel the story. Just as good as the story...this is hands-down the best narrator I've ever heard read an audiobook. Sometimes I would get discount and try to find my place again in the story. The narrator seriously did different voices for every character, and did them so we'll that I could tell who was speaking, even if I were lost and trying to find my place again. I am quite sure I would buy an audiobook just to hear the narrator again. Don't miss this one!

Good book, but not what I expected.

So I got this book while playing Fallout, it starts similar with interesting nuclear setting and wasteland in chaos, we follow several groups getting lucky during the blast and now looking at the disaster. but slowly it turns into something related to magic and unrealistic, very much fantasy. wasnt bad just not what I expected.

great narrative btw.

Second time reading this!

I read this book when I was younger and remembered a bit of the story, and knew I had loved it. I am SO glad I decided to read it again - so well written!

YES!!!

This was my first title by Robert McCammon and I’m so happy I took a chance on it. The book is long, not gonna lie, but it flew by. The story was very good, kept me interested, and the narration was done very well.
I highly recommend both this title and the author.

Worth a listen.

Just finished the Stand for a second time. This book satisfied my post apocalyptic story cravings.

Excellent story

I don’t write many reviews on the audio books I listen to but felt that after about 35 hours, this one warranted my time. The story kept me very engaged and I was very interested in the character development. Following along on each group’s journey you really came to know them. Sure, some plots were easy to figure out but I was still highly interested to continue. The narrator also did an excellent job. This book was well worth my time
