When Sarah escapes from her brutal abductors, she promises to return to rescue her twin sister, but with the walking dead invading Fort Worth, TX, she is forced to rely on a competitive coworker who made her work life hell for years. With her coworker weakened by cancer treatments, her sister still imprisoned, and zombies looking for an easy meal, Sarah's only plan, if she can pull it off, is survival.
Survival is a short story that was originally published in the Let's Scare Cancer to Death anthology.

This is what I had to say about the original release of the book version:
I was fortunate to be able to read this tale prior to release. The bottom line is that this is hands down my favorite read so far in 2014. Short story or not, this tale will stick with you. This story opens with a punch in the throat and has you gasping until the last words on the page fade as you turn off your Kindle.
It can be a challenge to really offer up characters with depth that you care about in a short story, yet Rhonda Hopkins does just that. And you will experience a roller coaster of emotions throughout. It matters very little if you are a fan of the zombie genre, this is a story that will pull you in and refuse to let go.
So do yourself a favor...read this gem and then tell a friend.
As a listen, it has a bit more added to the story to flesh a few things out. Yes, it is short, but as an introduction to a series, it is a tasty appetizer.
The audio narration by Ms. Wiley is well paced and clean. She does not over do it (which can be a problem with narrators who start to sound like bad high school theater), and her voice fits the story perfect.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
I love this genre and Sarah and Dana are strong women...
The Rescue...Sarah was bad ass!!!
She was perfect..I quite enjoyed her narration!
The apology at the end!

Sarah and Dana are twin sisters and find themselves kidnapped in the middle of the fresh outbreak of a zombie apocalypse! Sarah escapes and comes back with Meredith a work associate to rescue her..Sarah kicks some major butt and Dana and her escape and rescue some others on the way to a safe place....super cool story and I cant wait for #2!!!
I have been an avid reader all my life. Everything from True Crime to Time Travel. Now that I am retired, I read even more.
Swift moving chapter in a series format. I enjoyed this horror tale but would have liked to know the beginning, onslaught of the Zombie crisis. This first chapter started already in the grip of the deadly creatures roaming and ruling the city. Hopefully the subsequent chapters will go back to explain the HOW and WHY.
The story is nicely developing the group of characters, the survivors. I am looking forward to the next episode.
The narrator did a good job with the different characters' voices and personalities.
Zombies and Cancer....something I have never seen together before in any book, tv show, or movie. This story starts us off right in the middle of the action. It's not often that a book does that, and it definitely grabs the reader right away. The only downside in this case is that I would have liked to see a little more back story/ world building. We are given enough information to understand, but not much more. I wondered why the cancer was included, but I figure it will be a major facter in the future of the series. I wish this was a little longer as well! The narrator of the audiobook did a great job, and I liked her voice. I enjoyed this audiobook and I hope to continue with the next.

It makes me happy to wake up everyday and look forward to listening. Many times I listen while doing artwork. I find it very relaxing.
SURVIVAL was a great listen. It had all the elements of a full length story. Good world building plus likable characters. I especially liked the protagonist Sarah. This was exciting and a good zombie thriller set in Ft. Worth, TX. which I also liked. I wish it had been a little longer although it was a good start to a new series. I would love to hear a continuation of this story. It was engrossing. Rhonda Hopkins is a wonderful author.
Lisa L. Wiley's performance was superb. She had the perfect voice for Sarah. She made this an enjoyable listen with great voice inflections and a good pace. She made it sound effortless. An overall super job.

There are many zombie stories out that have the male in the leading role.
This one is about a woman and her twin sister dealing with life and people at the start of a zombie outbreak. It presents issues from a different point of view than most zombie stories. Like what happens to the non-zombie children of zombies and people who were sick before the outbreak. It is easy to get caught up in the action and loose track of time because there is something happening from start to finish.
My main complaint about this story is that it ended too soon. Looking forward to the next one.
This story is suitable for YA. Not overly violent or sexual. A good story for male and female.

I only experienced the audible version, but I know I wouldn't have enjoyed a print version as much.
Sarah, the main character. She was a normal, relatable woman that really worked well in her role.

I have MS and I am mostly homebound. My eyesight has been affected so listening to audio books has become my favorite pastime.
Once I started I couldn't stop till it was over. It has everything. Kidnappers, zombies, jealousy, love and compassion. The narrators voice brings the story to life. I can't wait to hear more.
Lover of books with a good plot, strong characters, lots of action, no whiners allowed, and only a small amount of well placed cheese
Way to short. That's probably not what Audible had in mind when they came up with the question, but they sum it up for me. The story was just starting to get really good and engrossing and BAM, I'm hearing "we hope you've enjoyed...." signaling the end of the book. There are many topics that, of course, have been left hanging and I'm sure that was the authors plan all along. I hope the next book in the series is an actual book and not another novella. Since this first one is so short, I'd also like to see the next book start with the novella and then just keep going. Although it was really good, there wasn't enough to it to really imprint on my brain.
Probably when Sarah returns to the warehouse and rescues her sister
This was my first listen with Ms. Wiley as the narrator
No, but like I said to was really short, I did like the part where they rescued the kids
