    "A bad new-age after-school special"

I generally devour all audible books and even like poorly narrated ones (to put me to sleep at night).
After 500 or so downloads, I finally found a book I hate! This went beyond bad narration. Bad writing, no character development, extremely wacked-out plot premise, unrealistic character reactions. Way out there... and way bad. Good thing it was free.

"Free? This author owes me money."

I thought this utterly awful and immature book was made worse by its narrator, who whined the dialog. A ridiculous waste of computer space. Even at free it wasn't worth the download or my listening time. I gave it the one star only because a rating is forced. It doesn't count ... the book deserves no star.

    "Very New Age"

Did you know that suppressed emotion causes cancer, or causes it to spread? Me neither. The author evidently believes so.

I tried to stick it out, but about three-quarters in, when the author got into blather about the "three spiritual bodies" that inhabit a person's physical body -- and a dog's physical body -- I gave up on this book. Isn't the very term "spiritual body" oxymoronic?

The author is no doubt sincere in his beliefs. This reader doesn't care to be prosyletized about them.

    "storyline was interesting"

although the storyline was interesting, the book was not altogether cohesive, over explaining certain elements and glossing over others. the narration; however, was abysmal. it made it very difficult to sit through the book and I found myself trying to not mock the narrator's delivery. painful.
the story ends somewhat abruptly as well. and although I may be curious to see where the story heads in the series, there is no way I will buy it as an audio book if the same narrator delivers the story.

It only got my attention at the very end.
The narrator really needs to work on her reading aloud, she's a novice.

    "Bad book, worse narrator"

This book did inspire me: never to listen to a bad book again. From now on, an audiobook will have to grab my attention in the first chapter and have a narrator who can at least pronounce basic words. Her voice was shrill and bland, as other reviewers have mentioned, especially when raised, and every time she said "farmiliar"--"familiar" with an unnecessary "r"--I wanted to abandon the book. Too bad I didn't before it abandoned the reader, with an advertisement for the sequel and barely a pretense of an attempt at a credible ending to the first one--unless I was so bored by that time that I missed it.

    "Truly wretched"

The book itself is at once mystical and banal, a mash-up of new age fantasy and self-help assertions.

The only interesting moment - and a weird one it is - is the protagonist discovering that he has always felt most comfortable expressing his feelings by wiggling his butt, but that his tail has always been too short.

Evidently, it isn't possible to give a zero star rating, but the book was free, and worth every penny I paid for it.

The reader isn't bad, somewhat bland and expressionless, but maybe that's her reaction to the book.

    "Terrible prose, terrible story."

This book is what happens when a Do-it-yourself / How to... author decides to write a book. The story is mystic cobblers and the prose is worse than a school kids effort. Terrible descriptions of places and characters written like an instruction booklet for idiots, this was the least rewarding book I've downloaded yet. It may be free, but it's still not worth it.

"It reminded me of 1980s daytime tv"

Let's get this straight - this is a FREE download so what we're asking is to evaluate if it's worth the time invested in listening. I guess the answer is "depends on how bored you are."
The first half of the story was OK and set up for potentially an interesting twist or two that sadly never came. When the recording was over, I felt it was unfinished, took the listener for granted and didn't really offer any hooks to make me want to follow the characters in their further adventures. The female characters were very flat and the male characters not much better. I'm really sorry to be so negative, but this just wasn't for me.

    "What a load of twaddle"
What disappointed you about Summer's Path?

The blurb sounded like it might have been a good story, but it was in fact a non-starter

What didn’t you like about Diane Ray’s performance?

Diane Ray's performance was unsatisfactory. Emphasis was all wrong and lacked the right level of emotion. At times I wasn't sure which character she was reading for and I wondered occasionally if it was being read by a computer

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Summer's Path?

The book is full of new-age instruction. The whole premise of the book seems to be to teach the listener about meditative practices and so forth. This should have been made clear from the outset. Instead we were fed the lie that this might be a good story...

    Any additional comments?

An interesting-sounding premise. An "angel" approaches a terminal cancer victim and makes a deal. Do you believe this character or should you be suspicious? It could have been good and could have headed down any number of avenues, but turned out to be just fluff and nonsense. Nothing interesting here.

    "uninteresting"

Unconvincing, boring. Reads like a summary of somebodies idea of how cancer patients could be in control of their death. The resoning, thought processes and feelings seem unconvincing and mecanic. I cant belive the characters. The reading doesnt help at all. Nice diction, lovely voice but not quite convincing. I decided to listen to the end just to give it the full benefit of the doubt. I wrote similar stories as a teenager.
