Publisher's summary

Here is LAPD Detective Harry Bosch as we've never seen him before, in three never-before-collected stories.

In "Suicide Run", the apparent suicide of a beautiful young starlet turns out to be much more sinister than it seems. In "Cielo Azul", Bosch is haunted by a long-ago closed case: the murder of a teenage girl who was never identified. As her killer sits on death row, Bosch tries one last time to get the answers he has sought for years. In "One Dollar Jackpot", Bosch works the murder of a professional poker player whose skills have made her more than one enemy.

Whether investigating a cold case or fresh blood, Bosch relentlessly pursues his quarry, always on the lookout for the "tell". In this first collection of Harry Bosch stories, Michael Connelly once again demonstrates that he is the master of fast-paced, brilliantly plotted crime fiction.

Impressed? Ace detective Harry Bosch is also on the case in exciting Michael Connelly crime-fiction novels.

Bosch kicks ass

I enjoyed having one of my favorite fictional detective characters in shorter stories than usual.

Great little stories

Have you listened to any of Len Cariou???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Really enjoy Len Cariou's voice. Recognizable right away in whatever form.

Do you think Suicide Run needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

If Connelly has more short stories - it would be great.

Typical Outstanding Bosch

I was definitely not disappointed with this selection. Typical Bosch and even the length seemed right.

Three Bosch Short Stories

The title short story, “Suicide Run,” is the best, a Bosch-worthy case and solution. The second story, “Cielo Azul” is an old case, featuring the earliest chrono appearance of FBI profiler Terry McCaleb, who is the protagonist in other Connelly novels. The third story, “One Dollar Jackpot,” is weak. I got hooked on Connelly listening to “Echo Park”, which was read by Len Cariou, who reads these stories, who narrates several other Connelly, but Dick Hill and Peter Giles are better. Not worth a credit, particularly at 3 hours 17 minutes in length, but, for $7, a reasonable purchase, especially for Bosch fans.

More grist for the Harry Bosch mill!

More good cases solved by Bosch, but shorter and sweeter in 3 stories. Good writing as usual but Len Cariou is having a tougher time reading in these stories. He once was the best but now is still good but strikes me as fading. Still good Bosch stories, just not as long and involved as the usual stuff.

Real Bosch stories, not artsy short stories

Any additional comments?

If you like Connelly, get this. The price is excellent for the value, especially if you wait for one of the half-price sales. The three stories are full-fledged Harry Bosch stories that are just solved faster than the novels — each about an hour long. The middle story includes the Terry McCaleb FBI-profiler character and brings up a topic that is also addressed in more detail in the book "A Darkness More Than Night." All that said, this collection isn't quite as good as the other Connelly short story collection called "Angle of Investigation."

A great way to remember past reads

For someone who does not follow Harry Bosch stories this book is a great way to see how the detective thinks and solves crime. For me it reminded me that I should look for anything new from Mike Connelly.

Short Stories

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a series of "short stories" not like the usual novels. Something to listen to in a limited period of time. Entertaining.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Didn't like the narrator's voice. He didn't distinguish among the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

As short stories it was possible.

Always very good Harry Bosch shorts

Fast paced good read. For these police procedurals, I liked the narrator. The short stories were good.
