A Book in the Family Series
When 22-year-old Emilio Sanchez sees handsome Spencer Derdinger walking by his construction site, Emilio makes it his goal to seduce the shy professor. Getting Spencer into bed isn't difficult, but Emilio soon learns that earning the trust of a man deeply hurt will take time and patience. With a prize like brilliant, sweet Spencer on the line, Emilio decides he is strong enough to face the challenge.
Spencer is surprised when he's approached by the gorgeous construction worker he's admired from the safety of his office window. Acting spontaneously for the first time in his 38 years, Spencer takes Emilio home. When the casual hookup turns into the potential for love, Spencer realizes that if he wants to build a life with Emilio, he'll need to be strong enough to slay his personal demons and learn to trust again.

3.5 rounded up. This was a sugar coma read. The good parts are that the narrator does a great job and II enjoyed Emilio and his family very much. I love strong supportive families in my mm romance. Also, we had both MCs POV, which was very good. The bad parts were that Spencer came off as kind of a wimp and in some instances TSTL. This is an instalove situation, no angst, no drama, just sweet romance. The backstory is told to the reader, so there is a very superficial "struggle with the past" element woven in, but it has a quick resolution. And there is an ex boyfriend conflict that is also pretty weak. Overall the net effect is a nice comfort read that is enjoyable but forgettable.
This book is sugar sugar sugary sweet but honestly it was just what I needed after reading a lot of sad and angsty books. The small plot was predictable and it was overflowing with cheese but it was exactly what the doctor called for. For once there were no stupid miscommunication issues between the main characters and it's been awhile since I've read a "love at first sight" book so it was perfect.
It definitely made me laugh, smirk, and laugh/cringe in places, in a good way of course.
The narrator wasn't the best in pronouncing Spanish words, but I could overlook that and he was pretty good otherwise. I'll probably listen to it again when I am in need of some lighthearted, sentimental fun.
Yes, Sweet story of unconditional love and family values!
The scene where Spencer shows up at the bar and Emilio and his brothers deal with him. Or the scene when Emilio pushes his way into Spencer's house.
Spencer or Emilio
Emilio and all his brothers. That is truly brotherly love.
"Good Guys Can Win!"
Unfortunately I hadn't read the print version, so can't compare
I really liked both characters. Both Spencer and Emilio were very likeable, but I have to say that Emilio was my favourite. His character had so many likeable characteristics that it was difficult to not like him
He definitely brought the characters to life, which added to the enjoyment of the story
Actually, there were several moments that moved me and I was sad when the story ended
Having listened to a few of this author's stories, I have to say that this (to date) is without doubt my favourite. I will definitely return to this one at some point, and I cannot recommend this highly enough!
Acceptence, Anticipation, Libidinous!
The characters worked so well together, the age gap didn't matter, that they came from completely different backgrounds didn't matter....they fitted so well. The humour through out the story, the little moments of teasing and playing with each other. The secondary characters fit and work wonderfully too!
Great sound effects! This guy was great with expressing the characters emotions, I almost blushed!
I loved how Emilo dealt with Spencer's fears, encouraging and showing Spencer real love without recompense. I loved how Emilo tenderly took possession, whilst giving Spencer time to trust.
This is a wonderful listen from Cardeno C's Family Series, I'm looking forward to listening to the others in this series.
Very seldom you get a good narrator and a good story. Very often a bad narrator ruins a good story or a good narrator has wasted time reading a boring story.
I'm just 6 chapters in but I'm gripped: the combination author - story - story teller is perfect.
Nicely defined characters.
Flawless performance, shame there's only one more book on Audible read by Mr Pickering.
