“The plot twists ingeniously...an engaging, often chilling book.” - The New York Times Book Review

A writer in California. A doctor in Boston. A motel owner and his employee in Nevada. A priest in Chicago. A robber in New York. A little girl in Las Vegas. They’re a handful of people from across the country, living through eerie variations of the same nightmare.

A dark memory is calling out to them. And soon they will be drawn together, deep in the heart of a sprawling desert, where the terrifying truth awaits...

A great author jumps the shark too many times here

Koontz’s terrific imagination can’t save this work from too much reliance on the convenient device of endowing just enough characters with magical powers to save the day.

Love Koontz but slow

This is a very good book but the first half or better was painfully slow. Too much detail. I wanted to fast forward. The story was great but needed to condense.

The fact human kind is afraid of that we do not understand.

One of Dean Koontz’s best works. As good as Watchers but from a different direction.

Slow

It took over 15 hours of listening to build the characters and get going with the story.

was long but good characters

this one was great it was similar to a combination kinda like key to midnight and that's one of ky favorites. every book has something I wish they explained. the ending was good. I do with we knew what guys killed the old man, and rhey never had Dom and ginger fall in love or go ro bed together some stories have a love story early in the book. phantoms is another one that they fell in love at the end. I figure l they would have got married. I wish ginger fot back home and they left that place rather than ending there. sad that Stefan died he was a great character Leland was crazy wish they explained more why he believed that and was willing to kill himself but I guess that's not that important. earlier in the book I did say I might be aliens so I was right but the way things happend there was a great mystery to itm not sure who my favorite characters are when there alot of good ones it's hard to pick one. Dom and brendan definitely maybe and jack was interesting. twilight eyes ND then lighting are my top 2 this is probably 3rd it's very close with key to midnight and Phantoms. the whispers would be next. any reply good book I give all 5 stars I can't give this 4 nothing is perfect but ots probably like 4.6 stars at least 4.5 took me 3 weeks to read I wanted to do it in a week or less. I read and so the audio.

irritating narrator

The story is fine as are most everything by Big Dean.
The narrator is the problem. He has a fine reading voice, and some of his characters sound fine.
His characters to whom he imparts New Yorkish type accents sound cartoonish and very unreal.
His female voices sound amateurish.
These two accents range from mildly to extremely irritating, as the audibook progresses.
I believe that a narrator has two ways to go when he reads. If he does characters, as does this author, he needs to perfect them. If he can't or won't, than he should just read the story straight through, don't 'create' characters.
I prefer books where the narrator simply reads, and does not try and create "radio theatre", which is to bring in sounds and character accents.
I would have rated this audiobook at least a star higher with a successful narrator.

Median Koontz

A really good Koontzian mystery cum sci-fi thriller, though it does not live up to earlier works in the character development department. See Christopher Snow (Fear Nothing, Seize the Night) for example.

strangers four-part book

if you read this book make sure you read into it far enough that you start to you catch on to the plot because it's it's a good book. I almost stopped reading it when I first started because it wasn't making sense to me but then I realized how he was pacing together a group of people who didn't understand why they were having I guess you could say medical issues so make sure you read far enough into the book I've been you'll be really interested and and all four parts will go really fast. good writing good storytelling and good characters I enjoyed this very very much.

Worth a Listen

Great, in Dean Koontz style, listen. Well worth the listening time. Narrator did a fabulous job keeping so many different main characters voices separate and consistent.
