Publisher's summary

It was in Bitten, Kelley Armstrong's debut novel, that 30-year-old Elena Michaels came to terms with her feral appetites and claimed the proud identity of a beautiful, successful woman - and the only living female werewolf.

In Stolen, on a mission for her own elite pack, she is lured into the net of ruthless Internet billionaire Tyrone Winsloe, who has funded a bogus scientific investigation of the "other races" and their supernatural powers. Kidnapped and studied in his underground lab deep in the Maine woods, these paranormals - witches, vampires, shamans, werewolves - are then released and hunted to the death in a real-world video game. But when Winsloe captures Elena, he finally meets his match.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Great story, unfortunate narration

What did you like best about Stolen? What did you like least?

I've read the entire series and loved every single one. Armstrong's character development and story telling are fantastic and couldn't put the books down. What ruined the audio version of this story was the narration. Ms. Canning's voice is befitting Mrs. Winterbourne, not the other characters.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nell Canning’s performances?

It would depend on the story, but not for a series such as this.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Definitely. It's already Syfy series...although I have my opinions on the casting for that as well.

Good story. Bad narrator.

This is a prime example of how a bad narrator can hurt a story. The story itself was pretty good--there was lots of action and suspense and Elena remained true to character. But the narrator sounded more like Betty White than a kick-ass twenty-something-year-old werewolf. It threw me off.

wrong Narrator

The book in itself is great. However, the narrator choice is so wrong for this book that it ruined the story. Should have stayed with the first narrator from the first. book.

Meh

Narrator got on my nerves but it was a good book overall. Kelleys first book Bitten was much better in my opinion though.
Happy listening!

Amazing story

The story was good. This series by Kelley Armstrong has been one of my favorites for about 15 years.

The only draw back to this audible is it's a different voice than in Bitten. I just finished Bitten when starting Stolen and it was really had for me to get into because it's a different narrator. She isn't bad, it's just not the same.

Great follow-up to Bitten

Disappointing performance...only because the woman who read couldn't touch the reader from Bitten. Love the series!

Do Not Buy If You Can Avoid It!

I can't get over how awful this narrator is. I got 10 minutes into the book and I had to stop because the narrator has such a poor narrative of the characters speaking. This was a huge mistake from the studio that used Nell Canning. She does not fit the book or characters at all. I'm really upset that such a poor choice ruined this audiobook for me. I'll be reading my on hand copy of the book and reading it instead since this was my second go around of enjoying the books I thought it would be good for a long road trip. Now I have to delay and put on something else instead till I can read. Again, unless you can tolerate annoying and poor narratives of each character go for it but otherwise steer clear and save your love for the characters in reading this book.

Elena shows more of her personality in this book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Stolen to be better than the print version?

I don't read print book much anymore due to poor eyesight. I always purchase the unabridged versions so I always get the full intent of the author.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clay and Elena were my favorite characters. They are in love with a real conflict between the two.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nell Canning?

I would have cast Julia Whelan or Lorelei King. I love these two narrators. They have great voices for these type of stories.

Who was the most memorable character of Stolen and why?

Elena came into her own in this book overcoming her circumstances.

good story, mediocre narrator

I read the book years ago and loved it. Still do. This narrator has a limited number of voices and seems to think someone from Louisiana sounds like a southern Virginian. Listen to the sample before buying.

Can we get a redo?

This narrator made this almost unlistenable. And the next one is no better. I suffered through this with Elena sounding like a 80 year old chain smoker, but I just can’t get through 3-8 with someone just as bad. Who picked these narrators?! The book is good. Listening to the book is painful.
