Publisher's summary

Following the number-four New York Times best seller The Road to Grace, Richard Paul Evans’ hero Alan Christoffersen faces a life-changing crisis on his journey to grace.

After the death of his beloved wife, after the loss of his advertising business to his once-trusted partner, after bankruptcy forced him from his home, Alan Christoffersen is a broken man. Leaving everything he knows, he sets out on an extraordinary cross-country journey; with only the pack on his back, he is walking from Seattle to Key West - the end of the map.

Along the way, Alan begins to heal, meeting people who teach him lessons about love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. But in St. Louis, Alan faces another life-changing crisis, and now the journey is in jeopardy.

filler is the otherwise good series

This entry in the Richard Paul Evans' "Walk" series does little more than get us from book two to book four, with a couple of stories of people who provide bizarre punctuation to an otherwise mundane stroll from St. Louis, Mo to the Florida border. The two stories of people Alan meets along the way seem to be little more than bigoted caricatures of an imagined alt-conservative, religious and backwards if not bizarre American South.

I am otherwise thoroughly enjoying the Series, minus this needless blip, and appreciate Evans' street-level philosophy in his books. I gave the first two books 5 Stars!

A WASTE OF TIME

The reasoning of the main character to walk across the country was unbelievable to me. What was the point? Realizing that he's had a brain tumor and his father and two women who love him, fails to change his mind for the 'walk.,' made me less sympathetic to his 'cause.' Okay, he was devoted to his wife and mourned her passing But, she'd urged him to go on with his life if anything happened to their relationship. His father beggeed him to give up his strange obsession to walk across the country using a credit card and depending on the elements and the kindness of strangers. More descriiption was given to his daily menus than his purpose in life. I kept wanting to find some purpose in this story. But, all I ended up with, was just one more ideological theory about God and the bible. Religion took over several chapters of this book and only tried to serve as one man's theory about God. It was boring and pathetic The end just left the door open for yet another book with no end in sight. I'm sorry that I wasted my time.

I’m enjoying the walk

I put off reading this series for years thinking how could learning about someone walking a long walk be enjoyable. Boy, was I ever wrong. I have read almost all of Richard Paul Evan’s books and have loved every one. These books have been some of my favorites. I can’t wait to read Walking on Water. Richard has a way of putting you into the character’s skin. You feel everything the character does. His descriptions are fresh and informative and there is plenty of action and intrigue

One in a series

I’m not big on series because I feel pressured into reading all of the books. I read the first book in this series for an unusual reason and liked it a lot so I decided to read book two which was pretty good, but not life-changing. Because of that, I didn’t feel as compelled to read book three but eventually did, and enjoyed it. This book, #4, has some very unusual twists and turns so now I guess I’m hooked and have to finish the series.

The gist of the series is that a man loses his wife, then his business, and so doesn’t quite know what to do with himself, so he decides to walk from where he lives in Seattle, to Key West Florida, the geographically furthest place he can get from Seattle without getting his feet wet. He gets into some heavy scrapes along the way, but more importantly he learns a lot about himself and the world in general that make him a better person. I don’t know how this will all end, but I most likely will find out. I’m now starting book 5 of this 7 book series.

Wow

Wow. What a way to find out you have a possible life threatening condition. Love that he has all these people willing to see him through in his time of need.

Disappointing

I have loved and enjoyed all Richard Paul Evan’s books. This is my least liked. The whole bit at the Commune was boring and ridiculous. Not sure if I want to finish the series. Too bad.

Four completed, one to go! All terrific!!!!

I’ve enjoyed listening to each book. Time has flown while listening. I look forward to the last book of the walk series and then I’ll search more books by Richard Paul Evans.

But the rest is Excellent!
