Despatched on a secret mission, the company of a 28-gun frigate must face the hazards of conspiracy, treason, and piracy. And recently appointed third lieutenant Richard Bolitho must learn to accept his new responsibilities as a King's officer.

Michael Jayston's performance is outstanding. His "accent" adds to the British flavor and is easily understood by Americans. Really sounded as if he enjoyed reading the novel because he brings all the characters to life. Well done! Kent's plot, sub-plots, characters (both major and minor) are excellent. What a joy to listen to.!.
Plot development builds to a climax, as usual, but Kent adds more and more pieces in such an interesting way that there are no dull spots. I found myself just as interested in the main plot as I was in the minor characters development and sub-plots. Excellent.
His accent is distinctly British and easily understood by all English speaking peoples.
If it wasn't called Stand into Danger I would title the book: "Treasure Hunt, and Death".
Really a wonderful Audible book. I wish the entire series were available.
As a great Patrick O'Brian fan I am excited to find the offerings of Alexander Kent on Audible. This is a good yarn from a talented writer who obviously knows this genre, that of the late 18th and early 19th centuries English naval service. Since this is the first of these books I've read, I look forward to listening to more of Kent's work. One slight problem I see is that there are 30 Richard Bolitho novels in this collection and only nine are presently available from Audible. Also, Audible said a couple of months ago it was going to number selections in series so they would be easier to read in order. This has not been done yet, so it's necessary to find the correct order elsewhere. It's also unknown whether more of the Kent-Bolitho saga is to be recorded and sold through Audible. I'd prefer to plow through a series such as this without having to go back and read new additions out of sequnce later. So the big question is what is happening with the other 21 novels in this series from Audible???
Alexander Kent's Bolitho saga carries on the legacy of other fine authors such as C.S. Forester. As a former Royal Naval officer, Kent brings a keen understanding of life aboard ship and the challenges of command. Stand Into Danger is the story of a young officer (Richard Bolitho) who has to learn, first hand, about those challenges and the dangers that accompany them.
I am an avid eclectic reader.
I love a good sea story. This story takes place in 1749 and is between wars so the British Navy is reducing ships and personnel. Lt Richard Bolitho is happy he got as assignment as the number 3 lieutenant on a 24 gun frigate. The ship is sent out on a special assignment to find some missing treasure taken by the British from a Spanish ship then stole from the British. There is lots of action with battles both on land and sea. Bolitho is still learning his trade and learning how to be a leader. Michael Jayston did an excellent job narrating the book. This is the 3rd book in the series. If you like good old fashion sailing ship stories you will enjoy this one.
My name is Richard and I am an addict.
Very good characters. The book moved too slow then it all seemed to wrap up at once.
Yes, the narration and story line was worth the time. I wouldn't miss my wedding to hear the ending but i could see myself being late to work.
Don't buy this book if your looking for something to fill the O brien void in your life. But for what its worth, it has some value.
Currently a local truck driver who has hours to listen to my audio books. I am hooked, some of my fellow drivers enjoy them also
Yes, after a year of so good book great story
All of the characters seemed to be real and the writer did a great job of holding your attention
I liked all of them he did a professional job to bring each alive and look forward to reading more of his books
Both out of pitty and pride
Look forward to reading more not sure why there a wide gaps between books but each is well written to carry itself
both the story and performance of the narrator were very well done. a unique twist to some of the usual story lines you see from this era.
now only if Audible would get the rest of the series available. They seem to stock every 3 book.
"A great listen"
I remember reading Midshipman Bilitho when I was much younger, this moves the character along as he experiences the trials of being a lieutenant and his first brush with the fairer sex. It is a shame that the next book in the series is no available through audible.
"As good as all those years ago"
I suspect I am like many on Audible who will be drawn to this title. I read, these books as a youngster, loved them and fancied reliving the adventures. But was it as good? I think the very simple answer is yes! Kent of course displays sound knowledge of naval history and delivers exciting yarns which Michael Jayston does a thoroughly good job of narrating. Maybe some of the newer authors of naval historical fiction have developed the genre further but from my listen to Stand Into Danger it can still hold its head up high!
I notice sadly that the previous two books are not available and that there are gaps later in the series on Audible's roster. I'd say don't let that put you off, there's still a great deal of enjoyment to be had here and enough of the backstory is clear enough to mean that isn't a concern.
"Stand into danger"
As with all Alexander Kent stories the detail is excellent, but never so excessive that they bog down the story. The characters are realistic and believable, combining everyday life aboard the ships with exciting actions and smaller human sub plots, that bring the 19th century navy into the reader/listener's imagination
"a role model for the post teens"
exciting imaginative and hard to put down
now i will have to read some of Kent's other titles.
