Publisher's Summary

Featuring David Sedaris's unique blend of hilarity and heart, this new collection of keen-eyed animal-themed tales is an utter delight. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of everyday life.

In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck", three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty", a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk", a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.

Once again David Sedaris shows us the most outrageous, tender, absurd sides of ourselves in his "profoundly funny, well-crafted stories that somehow, magically, bring home a major point about fidelity or guilt or love...." (Christian Science Monitor).

    "Disappointed"

I LOVE David Sedaris, but I did not laugh once & was bored with almost all of the stories. Sorry, but if it's laughter that you want, try another one of his wonderful books.

    "Disappointing"

I usually find his work insightful and amusing, or at the very least amusing. There are a couple good stories here but the rest of the material is so crude and dismal, I had to give up listening long before the book ended. Don't spend money or a credit on this if you can help it.

    "Not what I expected"

Wow....that was dark ~_~ but it was funny in part's. I didn't realize it was only 3 hrs when I bought it for 16 bucks but it was entertaining. There are some life-lessons enclosed that are well written but the book itself was very melancholy.

    "Not very funny"

I am a David Sedaris fan. In the past I have found humor in his dark comedic storytelling. This book, however did not elicit one laugh. Some of the stories have fable like tones but for the most part this book is just a downer. Disappointing to say the least. If you are a fan, read the other reviews and wisely...skip this one.

"Love Sedaris, but this was awful"

I love Sedaris' work, but this is the one of the few audio books I simply could not finish, or even start really.

"Parables that went over my head"

The voicing of this book was great. The stories were produced and dramatized nicely, but the meaning of the stories went over my head--if there were deeper meanings there. I might try another Sedaris book, but I'm not going out of my to go looking for it.

    "Boring!"

Sedaris apparently isn't funny when not writing about himself. Not a single entertaining moment in this book. Do yourself a favor and skip this turkey.

    "Awful"

This book may forever put me off David Sedaris. The stories are trite and not in the slightest bit funny. I was appalled by several of them and just about quit listening except I didn't want to feel like I wasted my money. Instead I wasted my time. This is 4 hours I won't get back.
