Publisher's summary

This collection of sharply observed animal-themed tales is a delight, told with David Sedaris's trademark blend of hilarity and goodnaturedness. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of our own everyday interactions.

In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck", three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty", a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk", a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.

Enjoyable Book

I loved this audio book!! The animals are much like the people we all know, love and dislike. Some are loving, others too gullible for their own good, and a few are outright greedy. This is not a 'happily ever after' group of stories, and neither is day to day life. There is a lots for us to laugh about however, and like life, if we did not have serious times, how would we appreciate the good times. I enjoyed every one of these stories and might listen to them again.

A Must Listen

I've been a Sedaris fan for a number of years now and am so pleased with his latest work. Not only was I laughing out loud but my husband, who typically HATES audiobooks in general, asked to listen to it again and again. Worth more than one credit :)

Great narrators and odd but enjoyable stories!

I've always enjoyed David Sedaris and was fortunate to see him perform live. Elaine Stritch has always been a favorite and I was overjoyed to see her in Company on Broadway!!!

Good material not fully realized without Sedaris

Being a huge fan of David Sedaris' previous books and audio books. I was extremely disappointed that Sedaris does not read all of the material himself -- in fact, I think the majority is read by other actors. A large part of the pleasure of listening to a David Sedaris book in audio format is his unique and brilliant delivery of his own material. Simply not the same without David himself.

Not what I expected

Wow....that was dark ~_~ but it was funny in part's. I didn't realize it was only 3 hrs when I bought it for 16 bucks but it was entertaining. There are some life-lessons enclosed that are well written but the book itself was very melancholy.

Painfully funny

This one is not for those who want some warm fuzzies from these animal tales! These allegories unflinchingly pull apart some of the worst as well as some of the silliest, and pettiest, in human behavior. If you cannot muster the ability to laugh darkly in the face of ugly truths, skip it. But if you can? You will have a blast with this book!
I also liked the other readers - the shift in voices was good.

Worst Sedaris Book Ever

I've read all his books, seen him live, and even chatted with Mr. Sedaris for a few minutes in a theater lobby. I am a fan of his. This audio book was terrible. The stories were all predictable, book was short, and the narrators other than Mr. Sedaris weren't great. What makes his audiobooks fun is hios reading of them.

I want my credit back.

Don't be fooled by the cute cover

Disappointing, I've loved David's other stuff. This is weird dark humor, I guess it's humor if you think eating poop and anal sex is funny. Not sure what points he was trying to convey, but I'd of just asoon missed it.

Disappointed

David Sedaris is a wonderful comic and author. His stories of fiction are, in my opinion, his weakest work. The only way he can carry them is to narrate himself since he has a wonderful sense of comic timing. In this book, the stories don't stand up when narrated by anyone but the author. And, sadly, they're not that strong when he narrates. We love you, David, but more real life please.

Please don't...

I'm a fan of David Sedaris, but I wish I hadn't listened to this. I actually still feel sick when I think about the stories, and I listened 4 weeks ago. I have deleted this from my library.
