Publisher's summary

LA shoe designer Maddie Springer lives her life by three rules: Fashion. Fashion. Fashion. But when she stumbles upon the work of a brutal killer, her life takes an unexpected turn from Manolos to murder. And things only get worse when her boyfriend disappears - along with $20 million in embezzled funds - and her every move is suddenly under scrutiny by the LAPD's sexiest cop. With the help of her postmenopausal bridezilla of a mother, a 300-pound psychic, and one seriously oversexed best friend, Maddie finds herself stepping out of her stilettos and onto the trail of a murderer. But can she catch a killer before the killer catches up to her?

Fun & Playful

A fun listen, similar to the Stephanie Plum novels, but can stand on its own merit. I enjoyed it enough to listen to more of the series.

Great fun!

Very cheerful murder mystery with obligatory and effective romantic interest. I was nervous that the fashion designer angle would irritate me with lots of brand name dropping, etc. But it wasn't too much and treated with great humor. Very funny.

It was fine...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Any additional comments?

The story was fine. I wasn't blown away by it, but it was a good light summer read. If I could speak to the author, I'd ask why she felt it necessary to tell us every road number Maddie drove on. She did a lot of driving and it was distracting to be told the street and highway numbers.

Skipped to the end

Would you try another book from Gemma Halliday and/or Caroline Shaffer?

Ms Shaffer was wonderful. As for Gemma Holiday the "I'm late" drove me nuts.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure

Which scene was your favorite?

None

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Spying in High Heels?

That fact that she'd see clues and when she's in trouble then she puts it together. The "I'm late"

Any additional comments?

Funny

This book kept me in stitches with laughter. This book has humor, suspense and romance. Never a dull moment in this book. Maddie and Ramerez were my favorites. Kept me guessing who the murderer was throughout the book. I most definitely will get more in this series. The narrator was great.

Fun & Funny

This was a fun, entertaining listen. I was pleasantly surprised with the number of chuckle-out-loud moments. The book is especially endearing to those of us who are from Southern California as there are a lot of funny moments that only people who have lived in L.A. will get. That's not to say that readers who don't know L.A. will not enjoy the book, it's just that those of us who have experienced the oddity of living in that unique city will understand more of the satire. The narrator is decent. There are so many female narrators who do a better job with male voices though. Shaffer's are only tolerable. That said, I've heard worse. Overall, I think most people who like Chick Mysteries will enjoy Maddie's antics in this book.

Engrossing and funny

I've read the High Heels books before, so I was excited to hear it read aloud. Loved it!

Sweet story

It’s a bit predictable, but a fun little listen while you’re doing your out and about doing your day

Laughing in High Heels

I purchased this book based off one of Audible's monthly recommendations. I have never heard of Gemma Halliday or the Spying series so I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into; however, it was a good read. Nothing too heavy. When you think of the typical mystery/thriller book, it is a heavy read but this was hilarious! Maddie is such a character! I mean, she was investigating a murder, trying to clear the name of her boyfriend (who she finds out has a shady history of his own), all while struggling with the possibility that she is pregnant! Come on...who can manage all of that while being pregnant??! You know it HAS to be funny! I don't know if I will read any more books in this series but it was a nice change to some of the more serious fiction that I normally read.
