Publisher's summary

The one thing that could be expected to disturb the peace of life at Blandings is the incursion of imposters. Blandings has imposters like other houses have mice. On this occasion there are two of them--both intent on a dangerous enterprise.

Poetry. Yards of it.

Listening to this on the heels of even the likes of Chesterton's father Brown was as a revelation. No one approaches Wodehouse.

Classic, wonderful Wodehouse!

Would you listen to Something Fresh again? Why?

Yes, I definitely would. It's a light, refreshing story with enough characters and twists to keep the intellect moving without being overbearing. It's perfect for lightening up -- a drive to work, doing chores. In a world full of seriousness -- this is what my heart needs to keep it in perspective.

Any additional comments?

I love the narrator. Each voice is different and has a believable character all its own. This, in addition to Wodehouse's story, just comes together perfectly to create an incredibly funny and entertaining listen.

excellent British sillyness

Despite a slow start, the story is a wonderful comedy of the silly upperclass Brits, with constant flips in the plot line. Comparable more recently to, say, a Steve Martin film.

Favorite Wodehouse book so far

Fantastic plot, not too strained, or conflict-heavy. Plus a glowing performance from the reader.

Jeeves not needed

I was under the impression that the Jeeves books were the only really enjoyable Wodehouse, but I should not make such silly assumptions based on having read a single Jeeves and a single non-Jeeves book.

Something Fresh was a quick fun read, and a pleasant surprise in the two main characters - a truly independent, smart, feisty woman and a young man who thoroughly appreciates her. Not something often found in books from a century ago.

I have no idea how the series will continue as "Blandings Castle" when the most interesting characters aren't even residents, but perhaps each book will feature interesting guests, bouncing off the silliness of the standing cast. I'm looking forward to finding out.

Audiobook via Audible Plus catalog, with an outstanding performance by Jonathan Cecil.

Old coot

Wodehouse wrote so many great stories. This is in a different style that many of his stories, maintain humor but with a poignant twist.

Classic Wodehouse!

Great narration, goofy plot line, wonderful entertainment! Just what one needs as light listening while performing other tasks. Who could ask for more?
