Publisher's summary

Rachel has always been a good girl--until her 30th birthday, when her best friend Darcy throws her a party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy's fiancé Dex. Rachel is horrified to discover that she has genuine feelings for Dex. She prays for fate to intervene, but when she makes a choice she discovers that the lines between right and wrong are blurry, endings aren't always neat, and you have to risk all to win true happiness.

Loved the story

WOW, this was great! Love the characters, the storyline, of course my main reason why I selected certain books is becuase of good voices by the narrator. Awesome! Can't wait for the movie

Outstanding, entertaining, story!

Once I started listening to this tale I was scarcely willing to stop- even for work. The narrator's skillful rendition makes the story all the better. This is one of those great stories that forces self-reflection and grants its readers a willingness to refrain from judging the "perceived" indiscretions of others. I ABSOLUTELY loved this story and not just because of the satisfying ending.

Gaps in recording

There were a number of gaps in the recording! There were pieces of the story missing

light and harty

This novel was a refreshingly light novel. The characters were well developed and the issues presented in the story line were very realistic. I enjoyed every minute of this listen and felt as though I were watching a scandalous lifetime movie. Whenever I stopped the audiobook I looked forward to the next time I would have to pick it up.

Narrator ruined it for me

Would you try another book from Emily Giffin and/or Jennifer Wiltsie?

I listened to something blue first and loved it . I probably would've liked this one too if another narrator read it. It got on my nerves so bad I had to stop listening

What was one of the most memorable moments of Something Borrowed?

The storyline in the movie made Rachel more likable .. She is not In the book

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jennifer Wiltsie?

Julia whelen or Becca battoe

Do you think Something Borrowed needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It has one

Any additional comments?

No

Even better than the movie!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, but I think I would recommend the print version over the audiobook because I did not care for the narrator. That being said, I still really enjoyed the audiobook and found myself listening to it even when I wasn't in the car.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Something Borrowed?

I had already seen the movie, so I wasn't really surprised or moved by anything in particular. However, I did enjoy the book much better (even though I also loved the movie) because it contained character development, backstory, and slight plot differences that were not in the film.

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Wiltsie – was your favorite?

I did not care for Jennifer Wiltsies performance of this book. She made Rachel seem pouty and dull, Darcy seems whiny and shrill, and Dex seem monotone and cold. So I will base my favorite character on the story, not the narration and I would have to say Ethan.

His character is so lovable in the film that I thought I wouldn't like his minor presence in the book (friends had told me he wasn't in the first book much), but I somehow found him even more lovable despite his small role. I have heard he plays a much bigger part in the second book so I am looking forward to that.

If you could take any character from Something Borrowed out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Definitely Ethan, he is such a great guy in this story. I also found Marcus to be much more likable in the book than he was in the film.

Any additional comments?

At first I didn't see much reason to read this book because I had seen the film, but I wanted to read the second one (I am not sure if they are turning it into a film) so I decided to go ahead and read the first one anyway. Friends told me it was a bit different than the movie, which I didn't think I would like but instead I enjoyed this version even better. I am starting book two today!

Great Listen!!

I loved this book!! Really!!! I have listened the Love the One Your With by the same author. That book would sometimes go on and on. I was afraid this one would too. But no, the author kept you entertained. It really took a long time to decide if this was something I wanted to listen to because of the subject matter- people cheating. I am not into cheating, but this was from a different point of view. This book was really entertaining. I normally listen to chick lit- faves are Stackhouse stories, Twilight, and Sophie Kinsella. So- if that's your style, you may like this too!! I hope so. I am now going to listen to the follow up story just to see what happens next.

Not for the judgemental

The storyline is good, I wish the movie would’ve followed the book more. It discusses an affair in detail so don’t read if you aren’t prepared to see it from both sides.

SOBO

This book is a favorite of mine. Rachel is a fascinatingly flawed character. I enjoyed listening to her story.
