After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC.

    "Hated the holy rollers!"
What disappointed you about Somebody to Love?

The main character was too clingy/co-dependent on 'baby-daddy' and smothering the kid.

What was most disappointing about Kristan Higgins’s story?

Female character continued interaction with her fictional characters...drove me nuts.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappontment

    "Delightful story,wonderfully imperfect characters!"

I love the way Kristin Higgins writes, especially her character development. In Somebody to Love, James Cahill is 5 years younger than Parker, but so wonderfully troubled and competent that you have to fall in love with him. Parker has father issues (justified in her case) and is struggling to make ends meet when she's left destitute with a 5 year old son and a decrepit cottage in Maine after her father is imprisoned for insider trading. James comes to her rescue and slowly shows Parker that he's not just one of her father's minions - the fact that she calls him "Thing 1" tickled me at first, then irritated me after he did so much to help her. Still the fact that you get involved with these fictional characters is a great tribute to Ms. Higgins' writing skills. Use your credit and you won't regret it!

    Story
    "holy rollers overdone"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

yes....no mention of holy rollers whatsoever....it brought down the tone of the whole book...if we have an inner self talking to us we usually dont have such derision for our thoughts....after all its our self conscious thoughts and inner common sense speaking..in her case it was the characters of a book she created that made her a popular author, much to her disgust.VERY damn annoying having the main character talk to them throughout the book...and they talked back!!! She would have sounded so much better without sounding so insane....and what made it worse was that they were characters from a book the main character wrote that was a so called popular seller?? Dont know how the hell why...or even why they made the main character an author...she is a privileged woman reduced to having to fend for herself when her nomadic estranged father traded all her inheritance away and subsequently was sent to jail for his crimes.....hmm it could have had some merit as an interesting plot if it wasnt for the constant rants of insanity...and the loopy dad..

What was most disappointing about Kristan Higgins’s story?

see above, stupid holy rollers..(angels on skates) weird...

What three words best describe Justine Eyre’s performance?

lovely thanks....a highlight to the story

Could you see Somebody to Love being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    no no no...an hell no...

    Story
    "Sweet hearted...wonderfully lost in love"
Would you listen to Somebody to Love again? Why?

Yes, it was a sweet and romantic book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Parker and James. I enjoyed how difficult it was for them to come together but once they did it was a wibderul relationship.

Which character – as performed by Justine Eyre – was your favorite?

Viv. I thought Justine did a great job with the voices, even though many of the men all sounded similar.

If you could take any character from Somebody to Love out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Parker, he sounds like the types of friends have and would want to surround myself with money or no money.

"I fell in love with Thing 1..."
If you could sum up Somebody to Love in three words, what would they be?

    Absolutely positively amazing

What was one of the most memorable moments of Somebody to Love?

The moment they were at the altar and James stopped and exchanged vows with Nicky before exchanging vows with Parker was simply heartfelt and beautiful. Showed how much love he has for her to give her son security.

Which character – as performed by Justine Eyre – was your favorite?

Cousin Lavinia Harrington... she was a hilarious character and Justine brought her to life. I just loved her.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Money comes and goes, but true love is what makes you whole.

    Any additional comments?

I fell in love with this story in so many levels. Although there were a lot of complications and crazy curveballs thrown at Parker, she never lost faith. Determined to take care of her son on her own. She proved to us how hard work, dedication, love, family and friends, help accomplish your goals in life.

    "Great listen!"

Despite a somewhat slow start this book had me fully engaged by chapter three and reluctant to hit the pause button thereafter. The story has just the right pace with good character development and ample twists and turns along the way. You can feel the electricity between Parker and James and enjoy their relationship as it evolves. I hated to see it end.

    Story
"Not as good as other books by the same author."
Would you try another book from Kristan Higgins and/or Justine Eyre?

I probably would try another book from both. I "listened" to Catch of the Day and enjoyed it very much. Was disappointed in the storyline for this one.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kristan Higgins again?

Yes I would listen to another book by Kristan.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Actually, I liked the narrator. I though she was the best part of the book. I liked the different voices she used for different charcters.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I think the story had potential, but I thought it fell short in many aspects. Especially in areas regarding Nicky and James' family. It also lacked the humor that can make a romance irresistible.

    Any additional comments?

Try listening to Catch of the Day first. Not only will it familiarize you with the characters, it is the better of the two books.

    "Always a good one!"

Kristan Higgins has become one of my favorite authors, by far. I find my self laughing and crying in just about all her stories. Her heros are always the best. Her stories are always filled with so much entertainment that I can never put them down. This is no exception. If I was to tell the author anything it would be to have more dialog between the hero and heroine only because its always so good. You won't go wrong with any of Higgins books.
