Publisher's summary

After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon's Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns-a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father's wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she's not thrilled . . . even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.

Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist's assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn't the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn't the only thing that needs a little TLC.

Hot lawyer

Disliked the older, in the older unforgiving men. Loved the love story, dislike the bratty little boy too.

Narrator not good

I wanted to finish listening to this story, since Kristan Higgins is such a good writer and XE Sands usually narrates and is gifted in that narration. But Justine Eyre is much more limited. Her word emphasis is odd sometimes and the underlying sincerity of complex characters just does not come through. For me, the result is that I lose interest in the story. Too bad.

A clever, captivating story

Of course I loved all the characters and the enviable, and sometimes unenviable, positions they sometimes found themselves in. Higgins is definitely in the top 10 of my favorite authors and I’ve read and listened to myriad books in my 70+ years. I can count on her work and look forward to it each day.

Don't judge a book by its narrator

This is my favorite Higgins book. If you've never read a Higgins novel, this is a great one to start with, but ugh the narrator is the worst. Please don't judge this book by the reader it's miles better.

Totally Enjoyable!

I’ve always enjoyed Kristan Higgins, and Justine Eyre absolutely brought this story to life with her fabulous narration. This was one of those stories that you love every character and want to live in the small town with them. This book is a keeper and maybe even one I might reread. I absolutely loved it.

Big mistake to substitute Xe Sands as narrator

Somebody to Love is a good enough story, but, changing the narrator from Xe Sands to Justine Eyre was just confusing and a big mistake.
Ma Eyre made characters we loved in the two earlier Gideon’s Cove Books sound grumpy and not at all like the charming characters with Down East Maine accents brought to life by Xe Sands.

Good story but…

I struggled to like the leading lady Parker. It is always difficult to embrace a story when you don’t like the main character(s). I love Kristen Higgins story telling style though!

I just loved this sweet love story!

I’m a fan of Kristan Higgins and have enjoyed many of her stories but the narrator was not as good as Xe Sands.

Loved the story not the narration.

Kristin Higgins made me laugh again! She make our humanness humorous!

I did not like the way the narrator portrayed the men’s voices. Women that were strong character voices in previous books sounded weak. Actually, I guess overall the characters, with exception of Parker, sounded like country bumpkins! Hard to listen that portrayal.
