A gripping, action-packed short story from a master of character, crime, and urgent suspense.
Will Trent, a dedicated agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for 15 years, knows that there’s definitely such a thing as a cop’s intuition - which is why he should have listened to his own.
While in a restroom at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Will overhears a girl’s pleading, plaintive voice: "Please, I wanna go home." Something isn’t right here, thinks Will. He feels it in his gut. But he waits too long to act, and now the girl and the anxious, angry man she’s with have disappeared into the crowds at the busiest passenger airport in the world.
After a desperate search, and with time running out, Will makes a call to his supervisor, Amanda Wagner. Will’s partner, Faith Mitchell, immediately sends out an abducted child alert. The entire airport will soon be grinding to a halt - almost 100 million passengers a year; five runways; seven concourses; six million square feet of space sprawled across two counties, three cities, and five jurisdictions. All this is shut down on a dime because Will has a hunch that he is certain is true: a girl, maybe six or seven years old, has been snatched. And he intends to bring her back - no matter what it takes.

This book is great. I love Will Trent. However, this is not worth a credit. As always Ms. Slaughter did an excellent job writing this book. It just wasn't enough to be a stand alone book at full price.
Although Karin Slaughter's Trent series does not need to be read in order, it helps. This novella picks up right where the previous book left off, and the next book picks up at the ending.
The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it was so short. I can't get enough of Will Trent and Grant County.
Tell us about yourself!
This is a short Will Trent episode. It can stand alone.
However, knowing the main characters from the earlier stories, I find it interesting that the possible abduction of a child got everyone working together and on the case immediately.
There is no second guessing Will's gut feeling, no obstruction from his boss, and it only takes a phone call to his partner to set everything in motion. Even with some setbacks along the way, a larger conspiracy is uncovered and the child is returned to her mother.
As usual, the narration is well done and fits the story.
Love listening to stories.
This book is fast paced, and exciting. The author made me apart of this story, especially when my heart started pounding and I cannot wait to find out if all goes well. I could not put this book down. Job well done. Everyday these type of acts take place. Thanks to all the people who keep an eye out to prevent evil. Thanks for going above and beyond your job expectations. I know this is a book but ever so real. Thank you.
I love the story. Great characters, believable story line.
Way to short of a book for the money.
I have always loved to read. As a child my mom actually grounded me from books if I was in trouble. Noone can do that now. Yay!
I have read each of the previous 5 Will Trent novels as well as this novella in the last week. Karin Slaughter's books are good. Really good mysteries. I did find the 4th and 5th books to be a bit more predictable and bland than the first three. Then came this sweet little novella. i liked it very much… better than the previous two books. And better than a novella. I think she could have accomplished so much more if she had taken this story and written a full novel. I think we could have explored how this crime drew out Will's insecurities and explored his own sad childhood and how this crime triggered those memories.
The performance was good -- the tones in her voice were perfectly aligned with the emotions the story evoked in me.
This was another wonderful story with fantastic detail, storyline and wonderful narration I even teared up.... another winner !!!
Idle Hands ... are never a good thing!
I liked the title - and the book was a decent read - decent listen. Karin Slaughter has a perfect name for her genre, and thus, I was 'snatched' into listening to this one. It was a culmination of several books I've read in the past, but had enough twists to make it worthwhile.
Love the Will Trent character. I almost did not listen to this since I was on a long trip and wanted a book that would keep my attention. So happy I listened.
I LOVE A GOOD MYSTERY. I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR AUTHORS THAT PEAK .MY INTEREST. I ESPECIALLY LIKE MYSTERY SERIES WHERE I CAN GET TO KNOW THE CHARACTERS.
Seeing the depths that Lee Trent will go to to solve a case he feels he mishandled.
I don't TO ruin the ending for others, so I'll just say the ending stole my heart
Off course it would be LEE Trent to discover if he is really as described and! as I picture him
