Publisher's Summary

The new audiobook from number one best-selling author Jodi Picoult, with the biggest of themes: birth, death, and responsibility.

When a newborn baby dies after a routine hospital procedure, there is no doubt about who will be held responsible: the nurse who had been banned from looking after him by his father. What the nurse, her lawyer and the father of the child cannot know is how this death will irrevocably change all of their lives, in ways both expected and not.

Small Great Things is about prejudice and power; it is about that which divides and unites us. It is about opening your eyes.

    "RESPECT JODI!"

This book resulted in much soul searching! She once again made me examine my "traditional" beliefs. I have so much admiration for Jodi's different approach to sensitive subjects and the depth and integrity of her research.

Jodi does it again. Written an amazing book about a very important topic , showing the story from different viewpoints. The one thing about Jodi's books is thant you never know how they sre going to end ,so you can't take it for granted that all is going to go as you hope. An amazing journey. Captured right from the start to last chapter. Loved the info at the end on how and why she wrote this story.
Brilliant narration that truely brought the characters to life.

    Story
    "Discrimination is a hellhound"

This woman can write and create very believable characters and very engaging story lines and this book is proof of that. She usually uses her talent to make us think of moral dilemmas we confront in a world that seems to change minute by minute, but in this case, she wants to confront the biggest moral stain in America, racism, as in the black experience of racism in America. For the most part, she manages to give a message that is sad and palpable, while touching in an experience that is more contemporary than most books dare confront especially at this level of fame. I would have liked a plot that was more tightly woven especially in reference to the courtroom parts and an ending that was less sweet and positive. These are problems that need gravitas even when writing to a more popular audience, that levity takes away from the very good first half.

Don't get me wrong it is still a good book and very entertaining, some of the characterizations are excellent and the plot moves at a steady pace but the ending is too neat for my liking.

This is one of the best if not the best-rendered audiobook, the voices are perfect and distinctive, giving a fantastic liveliness to the telling of the story. A fantastic listen made better by the readers.

    "Worth reading"

Very good, very thought provoking and although the final chapter initially seems a bit much, "leopards don't change their spots" and all that, think again maybe human can. Would be a great book club read.

    "A good listen"

This book kept me engaged from beginning to end. Very well written with some stand out prose. I was not sure about the author, as a white woman, writing about the experience of black men and women. However on balance as Picoult says it is better to have this conversation than not. Thought provoking and gripping.

Could not wait to get back into my car to continue listening. A very emotive and thought provoking novel tackling race relations in modern times. The ending was a little lacklustre but I guess all books have to end somehow.

    "Eye opening"

Nothing in this book is really new to us and should not be a shock. However, it's true to life story and the reality this could happen to to anyone is what amazes me about this book. It is well written and gripping. The characters are backed up by excellent individual stories with thoughts and views we see every day. This is the minder day kill a mockingbird. Apart from the occasional English accent coming through from the narrator, this is a five star book.

I would challenge anyone to listen to this book and still walk away thinking they are not racist. This book is a lesson for everyone, well written and narrated. I could not stop listening to it.

    "BRILLIANT From Start to Finish!"

    W. O. W. JUST WOW! As someone who is half white British & half Black Caribbean I found this book insightful and eye opening.
The characters are gripping and although you may not agree with some of their beliefs and actions you can empathise with each one. THIS book is why Jodi Picoult has been my favourite author since I was a teenager and why she will continue to be one of my 'go too' authors.
    Be prepared to be educated!!
