Publisher's summary

Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That's just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they'll skip the holiday altogether. Theirs will be the only house on Hemlock Street without a rooftop Frosty; they won't be hosting the annual Christmas Eve bash; they aren't even going to have a tree. They won't need one, because come December 25 they're setting sail on a Caribbean cruise. But, as this couple is about to discover, skipping Christmas brings enormous consequences - and isn't half as easy as they'd imagined.

A classic tale for modern times, Skipping Christmas offers a hilarious look at the charm and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition.

Featured Article: Christmas with the Kranks—Book vs. Movie

John Grisham may be best known for his legal thrillers, but he's also been known to deviate from form every now and then and write something completely different. Skipping Christmas is one such book. It was adapted into a 2004 film called Christmas with the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, which gained the story an even wider audience. If you're familiar with the film but don’t know much about its literary inspiration, read on.

A Nice Story

This story started with me agreeing to skip Christmas with the main characters. I laughed through it.

Scrooge Modern

Hilarious! Didn't know John Grisham could be so funny! I admit having similar thoughts about simplification of Christmas. Heart warming end.

Actually laughed out loud

As a big fan of John Grisham, I wasn't sure what to expect with this story. But, right from the start I could picture every character and loved how they interacted. The delivery was excellent and the unspoken thoughts of Luther were hysterical. Perfect time of year to enjoy this story because much of what the characters are dealing with in the story is very much underway as I write this. I highly recommend this book for an enjoyable listen.

Christmas with the Kranks!

I love the movie. It follows the book pretty closely. I laugh so much! And it's also heartwarming! Merry Christmas!

When can I see the movie...?

Awesome little listen. Our whole familia got into this story... identifying with all of the different characters. "Is this a true story" several hijos asked while listening. It could really happen and probably has. Funny and heartwarming. Our family recommends this to anyone taking the long trip to the Abuelitos casa for the holidays.

Will become a Classic...

This book is outstanding! I don't know of adult who could not identify with this book. The last few pages bring the point home: That of "friendship" - loyalty - dedication to family and neighbors. This book ranks with "It's a Wonderful Life!"

Not a bad idea!

Amusing story line. Makes one realize just how many hoops we jump through for the blessed holiday. Although, skipping Christmas might seem like a good idea, skipping this book is not.

Dry humor

This is funny in a tongue in cheek sort of way. It is an enjoyable little Christmas story that will help put you in the mood for the season.
