Tom Kedrick earned his stripes during the Civil War, fought Apaches, and even soldiered overseas. But in the high desert country of New Mexico, the battle-hardened Kedrick is entangled in a different kind of war, fueled by greed and deception. Hired by Alton Burwick to drive a pack of renegades and outlaws off the government land recently set aside for an Indian reservation, Kedrick begins to notice that things are not as they seem. As his suspicions grow, he realizes that he may be fighting on the wrong side of a land swindle. Disillusioned and outraged, Kedrick must take action against the very people who hired him - or be forced to witness the bloody massacre of innocent men and women.

Tell us about yourself! I am a retired lawyer I started as artist a mural and sculpture in 1953 in Mexico. Love Louis L'amour Westerns,
Tom Kedrick is a good guy with a lot of experience which comes into play with his destruction of the bad guys in the long run.
Tom Kedrick because he was almost a super hero
Very good diction very easy to listen.
Rotten guys don't always win.
Just a very good entertaining story.
This is the exact same story (but still a good one) as Showdown on the Hogback. So if you're like me and have already downloaded every L'amour title and are itchin' for more you'll be a little disappointed.
It's hard to say what makes the stories so good. I've listened to books read by poor narrators that I enjoyed when I read them, yet not when I listened to them. But I have never been disappointed in a L'amour book narrated by Culp. This book was excellent and was exceptionally well read to make it a two-fer.
