the story is good - characters are largely well drawn (although kate is a bit of a cartoon character) but the book really comes alive in the parts dealing with hong kong in the 50s. In my opinion Moyes is at her best in dealign with the war/post war era (this book is probably not as good as ship of brides but still worth a listen).
Where the book is weaker is in the reading - the actress in question can come across as a bit one dimensional . That said it is still a good listen.
"Another brilliant storyline from Jojo Moyes"
I would definitely listen to it again as it was such an entertaining story and I could really identify with all of the characters
Too many to choose from!
She brings warmth and fun to the telling of the story. She interprets the characters of the story superbly.
Both....I balled my eyes out when the old horse died!!!
I have loved all of Jojo Moyes books that I have listened to. She is a superb storyteller and keeps you hooked the whole way through her books. I have listened to every one of her books on Audible now and am looking forward to some new ones coming through.
"Average book not Jojo at her best"
No there would be many others further up the list. The characters were a tad flat
Not her at her best out of the 4 I have read this would de at the bottom
"Another Jojo Moyes' masterpiece!"
This is right up their with the best of Jojo's books.
The narration was excellent!
Yes, I didn't want to put it down.
"Not very enjoyable"
Having just loved Me Before You and The Girl You Left Behind, I couldn't wait to hear this story. But I'm afraid I was disappointed. I found the characterisation somewhat shallow and the story a little trite. I also found the narration rather patronising and glib. Maybe this was what spoilt it for me to some extent.
I love Jojo Moyes I've never read (or listened to) any of her books and not enjoyed them. I also enjoy it when two stories run alongside each other; in this case past and present. I thought the narrator was very good and the different voices and accents were excellent. Keep up the good work Jojo!
"Not for me"
This book was to long winded. Surprising as I have listened to several books by Jojo Moyes which I have enjoyed. I was bored with it, gave up & returned it.
