With the return of the brave English sergeant Richard Sharpe, set to battle the mercenary forces of the Mahratta confederation in India, Bernard Cornwell claims his rightful place among the masters of historical narrative. Sharpe's Triumph is a riveting story of betrayal and revenge that, like each new installment in the Sharpe series, was an immediate best seller around the world.

"Cornwell's fans will dance with delight as horsemen charge and sabers swing through chaos and terror." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Consistently...brilliantly realized...the Sharpe novels are wonderful." (Stephen King)
This was a very odd recording for the novel. It seemed to me that narrators were switched in the middle of story off and on. I love listening to Frederick Davidson, but in parts of this, his voice either changed or someone else was brought in to do the narration. My recording also repeated several times in the 2nd part of this download.
All in all, the book is great but the quality of the narrated product is far below others I've listened to Audible.
I hope this is not a trend that continues.
Very impressive early work. I had only heard the later versions through Books on Tape and was quite happy to see that Audible has gone back for books 1-6 (well 1 and 2 so far) to complete the story. Good read and wonderful reader!
This is a good story and an enjoyable presentation. However, it is marred by a number of audio file errors. It surprises me that today, such errors can make it through to production releases. It's a pity because they do detract from this book.
The story is great--this is a solid sequel to Sharpe's Tiger. I give the performance two stars, though, because of the poor production quality. A few times, I could hear the difference where the narrator had read something at a different time from the rest of the passage. Worse, the audio had some glitches and stutters, causing the same word to play several times before the audio continued. Not the quality I expect from Audible.
I love Napoleonic War/Age of Sail stories and the Sharpe series promises to fill the void left by the completion of Aubrey/Maturin and Alan Lewrie series. It appears Audible has done it again, however, by not stocking the complete list of titles, they have left me hanging. Audible, get your act together and offer the complete Alan Lewrie and Sharpe series.
I have read many other Cornwell books but always thought the Sharpe books wouldn't be for me; I was soo wrong. I have read first two and am absolutely hooked. I came tonight to find the next one and Audible doesn't have it--at all!!
How could you get me addicted to the series and then not have them all available?? Where is your humanity, Audible? Where in the world is Sharpe's Fortress? I need it.
It says on Cornwell's website that it's next. And I can see there IS an ongoing storyline here, so leaving out a book leaves a hole.
Actor/director/teacher. Split my time between Beijing and Seattle now. Listen to Audible on the subway and while driving or riding my bike.
Sharpe in India at the beginning of his career. This book has all the typical strengths of Cornwell's series: flawlessly developed plot, richly textured period and locale description, just the right momentum to keep the story moving and interesting as it rises toward a climactic ending, and characters you will not forget. Unfortunately the reader's vocal pattern is relentlessly repetitive and gives new meaning to the word smarmy. It authentic dialect and might be useful as a character voice, but as the narrator it almost made me lay aside a wonderful book. Cornwell won out, but I will never buy another recording with this reader! Listen to the sample before buying.
Good story and excellent narrator, especially for the different accents. I would highly recommend this series for historical fiction fans.
I've enjoyed everything Cornwell has written and enjoy the Sharpe novels. this one started to drag in the last few long chapters which were 1 long battle scene which became a bit tedious. hopefully Trafalgar will move better.
I love sharpe and have started to listen to them when I drive and travel (having read them all). Unfortunately, the audio recording skips, possibly from cd to digital transfer because the timer stays constant. I love the story, but not happy with overall quality of audiobook. I will have to open the book to see what was skipped.
