Publisher's summary

Alas, a perfect plot for Napoleon: Stop Wellington's forces in Spain and destroy Major Richard Sharpe. An unfinished duel, a midnight murder, and the treachery of a beautiful prostitute lead to Sharpe's imprisonment. Condemned to die as an assassin, he is the pawn in a plot conceived by his archenemy, Pierre Ducos. Caught in a web of political intrigue for which his military experience has left him fatally unprepared, Sharpe becomes a fugitive - a man hunted by both ally and enemy alike.

Tired of Sharpe, BUT...

By the time I got to this book in the Sharpe's Series, I was getting VERY tired of Sharpe. The stories are all the same format. Sharpe is the best soldier and the best friend, and the best lover and always gets the girl (oh come on). BUT I did listen to the rest of the series, if you listen this far, so will you.

Another Winner

Ths sixth book in the series (not counting the prequil) has all the blood and guts, but adds a little more intrigue to the Sharpe equation. While Sharpe has mastered war on the battlefield, he still has a long way to go to be a player in Hogan's intelligence war.

Kicking Napoleon out of Spain

Pierre Ducos, French spy, sets a trap for Sharpe and has him charged with the murder of the Marquis. Lord Wellington is forced to respond by having Sharpe court martialed and hanged. But does Hogan and Wellington have a secret plan? So begins the story of intrigue
and suspense. There are several battles in the story and as I have said before Cornwell is the master of the battle scene. The last battle scene of the story is magnificent. I was most interested in the author's comments at the end of the story, telling what was true and where to go to see the battle scene, also which museums to go to see the Rubin's paintings and other item's left or recovered from the looting of the wagons. Cornwell is great at weaving history and fiction together into a great story. Frederick Davidson does a great job narrating the story.

Another good Sharpe Book

I really enjoy these books, so I'm really biased. This one has a slightly different plot than some of the others, which is a nice twist, although the second half of the book seems kind of repetitive of other Sharpe books. I did enjoy the description of the plunder of the wagons at the end though.

Another HIT!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sharpe's Honor to be better than the print version?

Bernard Cornwell does it again with his book, Sharpe's Honor. One of the best narrators, if not the best, Frederick Davidson, does a masterful job in bringing the characters alive and make the listening experience truly memorable.

Recommend all of Bernard Cornwell

Where does Sharpe's Honor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love the Sharpe's series. Ranking is too difficult. Audible gives so many fabulous options.

What other book might you compare Sharpe's Honor to and why?

Bernard Cornwell's books are all good. I really liked the Sharpe's series (most I listened to from the local library saving my credits for other fabulous books not available there). I've read less favorable reviews in comparison to Patrick O'Brian but why compare them? Both series are very good. Sharpe is probably not as well-written as a literary work but for entertainment value, both Sharpe and Captain Aubrey are equals.

Have you listened to any of Frederick Davidson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. He's fabulous in everything that I can remember.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No.

Any additional comments?

Great series. I've liked everything that I've listened to that Bernard Cornwell has written. I haven't listened to "The Fort" although I own it. It received some less than favorable reviews so I haven't listened yet. But, I will.

Dead Man Sharpe is Reborn

What a story. Sharpe fights a duel and then is accused of murder. Well they hang him and he is off to find out what or who is setting him up. No Harper to help him but he gets to go undercover, play with a murderous Spanish guerilla, tempt fate with a master French spy, meet some nice French guys, get the girl, win the battle and become rich in the process. I tell you this is a nice romp and is more Flashman than Sharpe, but still a damn good yarn. Worth the listen to and exactly what Richard needed to get out of his slump after the tragedy of events from the last book. Sharpe is back at his best and all he needed was an impossible action filled adventure with beautiful women, real nasty bad guys and an army of French who seem not to be able to aim straight. Oh, and he seemed to improve his riding in this book. Don't get me wrong, I love this book and Frederick Davidison I feel did it real good.

What a fool!

Cornwell makes sure to keep Sharpe a rogue. Sometimes of the lowest order of rogues because Cornwell seems to keep him driven by his base appetites. The growth of Sharpe from the first book where he is trying to pick the timing to desert the King’s army, to this book where he’s now fighting to stay in the service of his king over a 19 years is pretty clever. It’s funny that he is battle hungry because he’s good at and has learned in all areas except his naïve desires for the fairer sex.

More Duccos Machinations

Audio version narrated by Frederick Davidson.

Another entry where Pierre Duccos tries his best to put away Sharpe and fails. The El Matarife duel methods was one and of course it's something Sharpe barrels through with just brute strength, speed, and daring.
