Publisher's summary

The number one New York Times best-selling sequel to A Discovery of Witches, book two of the All Souls Series. Look for the hit TV series A Discovery of Witches, streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now, and Shudder. Season Two premieres January 9, 2021!

Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them. Together they find they must embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey.

Not bad

So, the reviews had me holding back on this book. But I’m glad I read it. This book in the series is the meat so to speak. This is where you learn a lot about the history of Matt, Diana’s background. About all these supernatural creatures. This is also when you learn exactly what kind of witch Diana is and she learns how to control her power. Mind you she takes FOREVER to figure it out and how to control it. The one thing I will say, the author makes these two characters out to be big and bad in the first book, but the second book well they seemed more lacking in the big and bad department. I want to contribute it to being in the past, but.....

So, I am really hoping the last book comes through. This has been a really good series so far, BUT I think it’s also fair to say, I am a history junkie. So, I loved this book. This one by far is my favorite, I don’t want to spoil it, do all I will say is that there were comments about it being boring. I can see that if your not big on history.

Mystically magical

Loved this exciting take on vampires and witches! Highly recommend this series for the fantasy reader. Parents beware there are bedroom scenes that some may be sensitive to especially young adults.

book 2

The author write a good story, but is too wordy. Her descriptions are sometimes not necessary which is the only drawback to her stories. The narrator does a good job of differentiating the voices which lends to the enjoyment of the audio version.

Magical surprise

This story, which I was drawn to because of the TV series, is so much more than you think it's going to be. And nothing about it remotely resembles the teenage angst of Twilight. I apologize for even using the title in my review. Great characters, elaborately plotted...can hardly wait to head to #3

Stellar book all around

If there was any series that demands for a tv series or movie series it’s this. This book tells about the journey Matthew and Diana take back in time in order for Diana to learn about her magic and find the book. This book is 5 stars in every category. Especially the narration. Well done. I can’t wait to start the next book.
