Publisher's summary

The number one New York Times best-selling sequel to A Discovery of Witches, book two of the All Souls Series. Look for the hit TV series A Discovery of Witches, streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now, and Shudder. Season Two premieres January 9, 2021!

Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them. Together they find they must embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey.

Shadow of Night Shines

It's rare that a sequel rises to the same level or surpasses that of the original, but Deb Harkness has done so with this one.

A Great Part Two, Anxiously Awaiting Part Three

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow of Night to be better than the print version?

I had the interesting experience of listening and reading at the same time. This "hybrid" method is captivating. I found myself listening to a few chapters in the car, then going back later and reading the chapters while listening again. Amazing experience!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Actually, I think my favorite character from both books is The Bishop House.

What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice quality seems to fit the book. Hard to explain, but she brings real life to these words, and I can't imagine anyone else narrating these books. When I read or re-read passages I hear her voice in my head.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I just like it a lot.

Any additional comments?

I love time travel stories, vampire stories, and I'm a European history junkie, So these books are tailor made for me. Ms. Harkness weaves an intricate and compelling story. Part three, please.

Another romantic winner

Any additional comments?

I liked the first book in the series better, but I would still recommend this listen & am looking forward to the next one when it comes out. I like romances with well developed characters, interesting events & especially the development of their relationship. This series is one of my favorites.

Fun Story

Fun and interesting sequel. I appreciate the Performer's reading, love the different voices. it took only a short bit to get accustom to her male voices, but I often have trouble getting used to most readers' voices of the opposite sex. I wish the recording publishers would use two voices when there is a lot of dialogue.

to the Elizabethan era

I really enjoyed the way the author took the couple back to the Elizabethan era. the characters we're very interesting and fun to follow. The voices of the narrator made each character stand out nicely.
