Publisher's summary

The number one New York Times best-selling sequel to A Discovery of Witches, book two of the All Souls Series. Look for the hit TV series A Discovery of Witches, streaming on AMC Plus, Sundance Now, and Shudder. Season Two premieres January 9, 2021!

Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them. Together they find they must embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey.

Great supernatural romance historical fiction

Book 2 is as good as 1 and 3. What a delightful tale set primarily in 1591 UK and Europe. Astute reflection on human nature, famil, friends and love told in the context of witches, vampires and delightful demons. Fantastic book and narration. A rare treat.

great book the problem is the third book

This book along with a discovery of witches is fascinating and well written and researched. However the third book in the series must have been written by a ghost writer. It is flat and contains gratuitous violence which does not further the story line. The tormented soul of Matthew which we love in the first two books is completely absent in the third book. A deeply religious man who loves and hates in equal measure is reduced to a characterature and a flat character in the third book.

Great audible book!

This is my favorite series of all the books I have ever read. I have read the trilogy three times so I decided to buy the audible version this time--which was a great choice. The narrator's voices made the book even better which I didn't even think was possible.

Worth the wait...and not the corset ripping

I struggle with this series as a male reader. The series feels like a mix between Indiana Jones and Harry Potter...wonderful! The Twilighty romance is tolerable, but at times it just makes me wonder if I'm reading a book I like.

This installment of the series was as enjoyable as the first, but the action and scholar as hero themes were displaced too much for my taste. Itfelt like it tookforever for any real danger to show up. An emotionally charged moment in the narrative felt entirely glossed over to me (no spoilers from this guy!), and it took me out of the story.

Incredible Hooking Story and Wonderful Narration

Would you listen to Shadow of Night again? Why?

Definitely. I love the story line and the narrator was wonderful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It's a toss-up between Diana and Gallowglass. Diana is so fierce and yet vulnerable and Gallowglass cracks me up. He's a huge lovable teddy bear and I can't get enough of him in the story.

What does Jennifer Ikeda bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jennifer Ikeda is really good at voices and accents without feeling like it's being over-acted. I was able to get feelings and ideas better that way.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely! I stayed up way too late many nights (even listed at work), etc.

Any additional comments?

Besides already loving this book, I was so impressed with the narration of it. I would probably want Jennifer Ikeda to narrate all of the books I love!

Great Book!

I loved the first Deborah Harkness, and was really happy with the second in the series. It took me a little time to get into this one with the timeline change and new characters, but once I did, I didn't want to put it down. The narrator does a great job with all of the voices. I can't wait for the third book!

Even Better than the first book!

What did you like best about this story?

All of the characters in this story were so realistic and interesting I didn't want to stop listening. I just wanted to stay intertwined with all of them. I love the different twists that the author gave to each of the historical characters personalities.

Love this!!!

I'm hooked just as I was with the Twilight. Love the reader's accents and interpretation too.
