"Fleischman's talent for writing stories from various points of view makes his works particularly appealing in audiobook form. Here, 13 different characters come alive via the distinct performances of a widely varied cast. The range of voices and styles suggests a true community." (Publishers Weekly)
I know it a children's book but has a message. In a time full of so much hate and ugliness this short story is a great reminder that things can be different . If you are weary of all the insanity take a break and listen.
THis audio book was even beter than the book. My students were able to listen to the different accents and understand the characters better. I LOVED it
Yes and no, This book is technically for the children's market. Even though a 4th grader could probably read the content just fine, I don't think the content is appropriate until after 7th grade.
I actually think adults will love it more than kids.
I've never read anything else like it before.
So many of the characters are incredibly powerful, but I love Leona.
I actually use this book as part of my curriculum for adults who are in a literacy class. They love the story! I love the story! It is such a simple tale, but it is so rich and full of all kinds of insight into society, immigration, history, and the human condition
How a small space brought neighbors together and unite them.
I don't have any to compare too.
I really enjoyed the accents. really brought them to life.
The author brought out the struggles and feelings in so many lives in a short story and gave hope in a struggling word.
This is a great book (especially for young teens) to learn more about other cultures in an interesting and compelling way.
us. We all need to feel connected, this story helps to grow relationships in a rundown area.
yes, i would. i like that different accents and you easily it is to imaginge the characters in a film. if you are a kid who doesn't like to read much, the audiobook takes this to the level where any kid can fully understand the plot. you can see the lighbulbs going on all the time.
smile [like in 'nice story...']
Many different stories all having to do with the same thing, from different view points.
This was the first time I had heard this story. I read that it was a children's book, but I found it very interesting. I really liked the skillful way everyone told their own story, all relating to the same thing from their viewpoint. It made me wish their was a community garden in my area.
a Heartwarming story of how a few individuals can improve their lives and their community with a few seeds. Big change from small actions. Great narration.
