Steel Magnolias meets The Help in this Southern debut novel sparkling with humor, heart, and feminine wisdom.
Twelve-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt is in trouble. For years, she has been the caretaker of her psychotic mother, Camille-the tiara-toting, lipstick-smeared laughingstock of an entire town-a woman trapped in her long-ago moment of glory as the 1951 Vidalia Onion Queen. But when Camille is hit by a truck and killed, CeeCee is left to fend for herself. To the rescue comes her previously unknown great-aunt, Tootie Caldwell.
In her vintage Packard convertible, Tootie whisks CeeCee away to Savannah's perfumed world of prosperity and Southern eccentricity, a world that seems to be run entirely by women. From the exotic Miz Thelma Rae Goodpepper, who bathes in her backyard bathtub and uses garden slugs as her secret weapons, to Tootie's all-knowing housekeeper, Oletta Jones, to Violene Hobbs, who entertains a local police officer in her canary-yellow peignoir, the women of Gaston Street keep CeeCee entertained and enthralled for an entire summer.
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Touching, Sweet, Funny
The mason jar the the spatula. You'll have to wait for it, but will be rolling on the floor with laughter.
ALL of them -
The Aunt's housekeeper.
After hearing her read 'The Help' and now 'Saving CeeCee Honeycutt', Jenna is now my favorite narrator. She portrays each character so vividly that you would think you were sitting in a screenless movie theatre. Kudos to her. As indicated, this is truly a lovely story with some incredibly funny parts.
Entertaining, Intriguing, Creative
The relationships between Ceecee and all of the wonderful women in her life.
Aunt Tootie. Jenna was able, through just her voice, to pull the sugary warmth from that character's soul.
This was only my second Audio listen and I am hooked thanks to the wonderful performance by Jenna Lamia.
One of the best audiobooks so far.
Equal to The Help. But different. It was truly enjoyable to listen to.
I loved hearing the southern lines which are so pure to how southerners use to speak.
this book brought me to laughing a lot. Very well written and preformed.
I got this on a whim a few months ago but don't consider this genre my usual fare so it sat in my library for quite awhile. Of course, once I started I couldn't stop listening so I'd have to make excuses just to drive around listening. The story is heartwarming and the narrator brings the book to life! Jenna Lamia absoultely amazing and I will definitely look into more books she narrates.
Yes, it was full of adventure! Really fun to listen to.
I highly recommend it.
Follow your heart
Every character in this book was special to me, important in a different way. But I most identified with Ceecee, her struggle to make sense of things, to understand things as they were around her, and ultimately, her need to flee and get answers.
When she ultimately refused to go
Every single one. From beginning to end.
Every time I listen, the story, performances, have the same affect on me. For me, it is a powerful book about how even a little person's life is important enough to be saved from evil, harshness, or corruption, do not give up, do not stop trying. There will be a way for you too.
I read for fun, multiple genre's. I review from a normal person perspective, not a fancy critic analyzing every nuance and writing style.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator and author both did and outstanding job. Adults and teenage girls both will enjoy this story of Ceecee's life. Despite having a hard upbringing, the story is uplifting and fun. The story doesn't' drag. I was never bored with it. I always looked forward to getting in my car to go somewhere so I could listen to this book.
Jenna does such a fabulous job reading the story. I got the audible because I loved her so much with her reading of The Help. Turned out to be a fabulous book too!
Original story. You are always rooting for Ceecee.
Everything. She is phenomenal.
