Publisher's summary

Steel Magnolias meets The Help in this Southern debut novel sparkling with humor, heart, and feminine wisdom.

Twelve-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt is in trouble. For years, she has been the caretaker of her psychotic mother, Camille-the tiara-toting, lipstick-smeared laughingstock of an entire town-a woman trapped in her long-ago moment of glory as the 1951 Vidalia Onion Queen. But when Camille is hit by a truck and killed, CeeCee is left to fend for herself. To the rescue comes her previously unknown great-aunt, Tootie Caldwell.

In her vintage Packard convertible, Tootie whisks CeeCee away to Savannah's perfumed world of prosperity and Southern eccentricity, a world that seems to be run entirely by women. From the exotic Miz Thelma Rae Goodpepper, who bathes in her backyard bathtub and uses garden slugs as her secret weapons, to Tootie's all-knowing housekeeper, Oletta Jones, to Violene Hobbs, who entertains a local police officer in her canary-yellow peignoir, the women of Gaston Street keep CeeCee entertained and enthralled for an entire summer.

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Great Listen!

I always enjoy books with strong women in them, and this one is no exception. I didnt know what to expect when I first read the overview, sometimes you just cant tell how deep or uplifting a book like this will be. The beginning of this book is a bit rough, but that is only because youre mad at some of the characters. Once it moves into the second half it is like a second chance, which is exactly what it is. I only had a couple of small gripes with the entire book, and they are too small to mention. It is a relatively light and easy listen, and if you want a feel good book, this is for you. Set in Savannah GA you get sucked into the women of the South in summer, and it is quite a summer to remember.

I highly recommend this book.

What a Hoot! This page-turner hit a Ten from me!!!

Saving CeeCee Honeycut had all the parts of a great novel. It pulled at my heartstrings as well as had me “rolling on the floor” throughout the book. I could not put it down!
Narration was also a Ten. Don’t miss this book!

Love it!

I have listened to this sweet story twice now. Love the story, love the reader. It reminds me of Redbird Christmas, The Secret Life of Bees and The Help. CeeCee is taken out of a sad situation and raised by wonderful women who love her. I highly recommend it!
