This book is excellent, and like all excellent books it is worth listening to, or reading, again. The narrator, or narrators, do an excellent job with different voices for the characters. This book left me with two major impressions:
One was the importance of laying up treasures in heaven instead of worrying about earthly treasures. The other impression this book left me with was the possiblity that if I die of a heart attack, cancer, accident, etc. that I might actually question God, why I was not so fortunate as to have the opportunity to be be put to death for my faith in Him.
I thought this book was purely fiction, but my minister said that it is based on a true story.
This is among the best books I have ever listened to or read - it does a superb job of showing how to live our earthly life with an eternal perspective.
Honey do you know where the remote control is?...we live a pampered life. Our concerns are often inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Safely home provides a window through which you can see circumstances from a different perspective, one that will let you vicariously experience a life with a different foundation.
This fictional book intertwining the lives of an American businessman and his old college roommate in China is a powerful story that will challenge the status quo of American materialism and Christianity. It leaves the Christian reader with a hunger, yearning, and exciting for our true home.
This story starts off slow and then captivates you with moral twists and turns. You really get a feel for the perscuted Christians in China.
Alcorn does a great job of weaving in truths and apologetic and chinese Chistian proverbs.
My favorite proverb in the the book is: " Real gold fears no fire."
Set back and step into the lives of to college friends that impact each other in very different ways and differently at various seasons of their lives.
captivating story of those who serve even to martyrdom fir their faith in Jesus. Convicting abd hopefully bring change in our lives through this story.
The best by a long shot! I am very unworthy to write a review. This book should be required reading for all Christians.
Never heard him. I got so lost in the story that I completely forgot about his performance.
No way I could say "a moment" in this book particularly moved me. I was moved all the way through, especially when the story was focusing on Li Twon. I think when the Chinese police bombarded the home church and Li Twon's family was forced to choose their belief and faith in God over the Chinese law. Li Twon gave his little son a choice to choose his life versus dying right there if he walked away from God. This was especially moving. I figured out how to cry without getting mascara in my eyes and burning while I read this as I was in tears most of the time throughout.
I hope many, many Christians read/listen to Safely Home by Randy Alcorn,.
I loved the fact that it is so close to reality. It made me want to listen all the time to see what happened next.
This story could have been true and probably in all reality is a true story. I know about the underground church and this book brought more to light. I felt like the characters were real.
I thought he was a fine reader.
I was moved to the edge of my seat when the police broke in during the secret house meeting. People were made to choose if they would stay or go. Only the devoted disciples of Jesus Christ stayed. The story really changed after that. I was taken off guard.
This book was very well written and it was easy to get to know the characters. I highly recommend it.
I AM LEGALLY BLIND AND ENJOY LISTENING TO STORIES OF FAITH, HISTORICAL CHRISTIAN NOVELS, AND BOOKS WITHOUT SWEARING ESP. USING GODS NAME
INFORMATIVE - INTERESTING - HEART WRENCHING
THE DEATH OF THE HERO
LEE CHUNG - THE MAIN CHARACTER
THE DEATH OF THE HERO
ALTHOUGH THIS IS FICTION, IT IS STILL AN EYE OPENER TO THE CONDITION OF PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS AROUND THE WORL.
Yes, I already have listened to it twice. Second time with my wife. There are so many quotable lines in the book, that I wanted to hear them again. Also, I often find that by listening again, I gain even more.
Li Quan for sure. His unwavering faith yet honest fears was so winsome.
Even though not every voice was masterful, it was amazing how many voices he did well, and it helped make the story more exciting than if I had just read it alone.
I plan to listen to Alcorn's other novels as well.
It was written in a very Bible believing perspective. The Christian life is not easy, but a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus can make anyone in this world a conquerer!
The main chinese character
The heavenly scenes.
The main chinese character
I'll probably hear this again just for encouragement.
