Will this be the day that I die?

This book is excellent, and like all excellent books it is worth listening to, or reading, again. The narrator, or narrators, do an excellent job with different voices for the characters. This book left me with two major impressions:

One was the importance of laying up treasures in heaven instead of worrying about earthly treasures. The other impression this book left me with was the possiblity that if I die of a heart attack, cancer, accident, etc. that I might actually question God, why I was not so fortunate as to have the opportunity to be be put to death for my faith in Him.

I thought this book was purely fiction, but my minister said that it is based on a true story.

This is among the best books I have ever listened to or read - it does a superb job of showing how to live our earthly life with an eternal perspective.

Challenging and Powerful

This fictional book intertwining the lives of an American businessman and his old college roommate in China is a powerful story that will challenge the status quo of American materialism and Christianity. It leaves the Christian reader with a hunger, yearning, and exciting for our true home.

My favorite book

This is one of the most meaningful books I have ever read. It is inspiring and challenging. I have actually offered $20 to any student in our school who would read it and meet with me to discuss it. It was used to encourage one couple to go to China to serve in missionary endeavor.

Think about it!

Honey do you know where the remote control is?...we live a pampered life. Our concerns are often inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Safely home provides a window through which you can see circumstances from a different perspective, one that will let you vicariously experience a life with a different foundation.

Safely Home

This story starts off slow and then captivates you with moral twists and turns. You really get a feel for the perscuted Christians in China.

Alcorn does a great job of weaving in truths and apologetic and chinese Chistian proverbs.
My favorite proverb in the the book is: " Real gold fears no fire."

Set back and step into the lives of to college friends that impact each other in very different ways and differently at various seasons of their lives.

Eye Opener

I loved this story. So many people dying for what and who they believe in. It makes me realize the freedoms that we have and the things we take for granted.

Absolutely WONDERFUL!!!

This book is so well written and the performance of the reader is equally as great. I planned on listening to a chapter or two and ended up listening to the entire book in one evening. I didn't want it to end.

Remember This Is A Novel

What disappointed you about Safely Home?

I guess he didn’t have an editor. I was born in China of missionary parents. My father was not imprisoned when the sleepy, village where they labored, was besieged by Mao’s dragoons. He did not leave the safety of Hong Kong to return to their former mission as some people did. They told their tales of sacrifice and terror never mentioning that it was inflicted. I do like to think that there were some Chinese, who where transformed by Christ.
I listened to this book because a friend brought the booklet”Heaven”,by this author, home. I am glad I didn’t recommend this to her. It should have been abbreviated by 50%. I know elements of it are partly true and that much suffering still goes on. I really disliked the totally
fictitious ending. I know it is a novel, but that elaboration was not necessary.

What could Randy Alcorn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

As mentioned above...it should have been abbreviated, and the ending could have been an hour shorter.

What about Steve Sever’s performance did you like?

His narration was great considering the material. The pace was just right and his enunciation, impeccable.

What character would you cut from Safely Home?

The transporting angel.

Any additional comments?

I am usually careful not to read novels, but I was looking for something that would clarify the gospel to someone unsaved. Glad that I finished it before recommending it to anyone else.

Profound and eye opening

I always knew there are Christians all over the world being persecuted for their faith, but this story had a way of opening my eyes and making it more real. I found myself crying several times and thinking about how sheltered and naive I have been. I will definitely be praying for persecuted Christians and will be even more thankful to live in a country that, at least for now, allows me to openly practice my faith.
